Ride up a road to nowhere and find The Waterford Inne, special unto itself. A 19th century farmhouse which once housed a large family has been renovated and refurbished to offer the warmth of early furnishings blended with contemporary comforts.

The Waterford Inne, A Maine bed and breakfast, opened to receive guests in 1978 and has been operating under the same ownership since that time! Set amidst 25 acres of fields, woods, and rolling terrain the inn and its impressive barn give a hint as to what living here in the Oxford Hills of Western Maine during the 19th century might have been--life far away from the maddening crowd. Arriving guests crest the hill to first glimpse the inn set back from the road. In Maine we have a full array of seasons; in winter we may be surrounded by a mantle of white, summer brings green lawns and flower gardens, in autumn we are framed with colorful foliage. But in any season guests are welcomed at the door by the innkeeper and welcomed not only into a fine Bed & Breakfast, but also into her home, a home of quiet simple elegance. There are several common rooms--one rustic, another more formal, a small library--each comfortably furnished and appointed with an eclectic array of artwork, books, and collections. Then on to the guest rooms, each one unique, some whimsical, all immaculate and comfortable. Guests will ride back down that hill to seek varying activities, but most eagerly return to the specially prepared four course meal to end a perfect and peaceful day.

Food & Wine

The Waterford Inne has earned a reputation for fine dining amongst lodgers and local guests as well.

Guests often meet and greet one another around our communal breakfast table. Folks help themselves to juice, fruit, coffee cake or muffins and then can order hearty fare which is cooked to order. It is most pleasant to hear the laughter and good camaraderie which seems to emanate from that breakfast table--guests sharing information on places they've been, things to do, even directional information. The early hours seem to slip quickly by with good food, stimulating conversation and plenty of good coffee.

Dinner is served by reservation. The evening meal is prix fixe. We serve only one entree and are therefore careful to ask ahead of time regarding guests' dietary needs and/or preferences. (Vegetarian, vegan, gluten free?--Just let us know and we're happy to accommodate.) Dinner is a leisurely four-course affair featuring local products (some even as local as the inn's own garden!), and seasonal offerings. No steam tables in this kitchen! Because we know ahead how many mouths we are feeding everything is prepared specially and served hot and delicious. And the meals are served "as in the home of a friend" on a fine array of china. And this inn has a seemingly endless selection of different patterns to compliment the meal, the seasons, the mood...

Sorry, no spirits license, but guests are invited to "bring their own" to compliment this fine dining experience, one not to be missed.

Rooms & Suites

We invite you to "visit" our rooms online and are happy to say that they are not standard hotel style. Each one is unique and somewhat theme driven. Yes, we are in the hills and lakes region of Western Maine, but our rooms take you to different places! How about spending a night in the Nantucket Room complete with maps and harpoon? or the Chesapeake Room with its duck motif? or maybe even further astray in the Safari Room with photographs actually taken on Safari? We do offer a few Maine themes as well such as in the Common Ground Country Fair Room or the Maine Cabin.

We also offer you choices in terms of furnishings--whether twins, double, queen or king beds to suit your preference or budget. Smaller rooms mean lower rates which just might mean an evening away becomes more affordable. But if you wish to splurge or to treat yourself we can offer larger accommodations, even one room equipped with a fireplace. Six of the eight rooms offer full private baths. The two rooms upstairs with semi-private bath just seem to fill the bill for family getaways. An eight room country inn offering country comforts with contemporary amenities.
