Innkeepers Share Their Easy Christmas Decor Tips

Bed and Breakfast Select Registry – December 21, 2015

Are you looking for easy Christmas decor tips to upgrade your home this season?

Our innkeepers spend days (sometimes even weeks) decking the halls of their exceptional B&Bs, inns, and small boutique hotels! We've gathered a few that we think are impressive to demonstrate several easy Christmas decor tips you can use to upgrade your home during the holidays.

Christmas Decor Tips from the Complete Holiday Maniac.

Mix textures, real and fake trimmings, to give your home a rustic looking during the holidays! For example, the Black Walnut Bed & Breakfast in Asheville, NC, places rustic Christmas tree clippings with gold holiday branches and silvery Spanish moss, giving the decorated banister an elegant and festive look. You can also apply this easy Christmas decor tip to your holiday floral arrangements and your holiday wreaths!

Lori White, owner and innkeeper of Black Walnut Bed & Breakfast, calls herself a complete holiday maniac. She will decorate for anything, so Christmastime at the B&B is no exception. White uses all real trees and garland so guests can enjoy their favorite holiday smells. For each guest room, she picks a different holiday tradition as a theme. In the past, she's decorated rooms with partridges in a pear tree and golden magnolias.

Black Walnut Bed & Breakfast has a total of 11 fireplaces and White always decorates each one thoroughly. The numerous, beautifully decorated mantels even earned the bed and breakfast a spot in Patricia Schultz's highly sought after book, 1,000 Places To See Before You Die!

Each year, White spends at least 7 full days putting up all of her holiday decorations. Luckily, she isn't a one-woman show. The entire staff at the Black Walnut Bed & Breakfast lends a hand, as well as the gardener and his staff!

White enjoys every minute of it: from all of the hard work to seeing the guests' reactions to what she calls a "Holiday dream come true."

Use your extra Christmas ornaments to decorate the remainder of your home! Put ornaments on your mantels with greenery or even in decorative glassware for an easy holiday centerpiece. If you don't have any leftover ornaments, buy a set of inexpensive matching ones for a more specific color scheme!

The Azalea Inn & Villas in Savannah, GA, decks out its elaborate mantels with decorations you'll also find on its Christmas trees. Innkeeper Shannon Blackburn and owner Teresa Jacobson handle most of the holiday decorating. They love to add whimsical touches wherever they can! Imagine little elves hiding in the Christmas trees or on the fireplace mantels. One of Blackburn's favorite holiday decorations are the mantel pieces.

Blackburn says, "It's important to decorate for the holidays because it represents a giving time of the year and helps put you in the holiday spirit. Also, because so many people are traveling, we like to give them a nice touch of home away from home."

To make its guests feel at home, Azalea Inn & Villas does a huge, delicious Christmas dinner. The decorations are just the icing on top to an already beautiful inn to visit during the holidays!

Christmas Decor Tips from the Chief Decorating Elf.

Get creative and incorporate your Christmas decorations into your home, so that they complement the surroundings! You can do this by using your existing decorations, like the ceramic pieces along with holiday decorations, as seen on this fireplace at the Belvedere Inn & Restaurant in Saugatuck, MI.

During the week prior to Thanksgiving, the team of elves at the Belvedere Inn & Restaurant spends 3 days lugging boxes and trees out of storage, moving furniture, making bows, and placing holiday decorations! Their efforts are always impressive; this is due impart to the sound leadership of the chief decorating elf, proprietor Shaun Glynn.

The theme is always classic old world Holidays. Glynn designed all the decorations over the years, focusing on festive colors that also complement the surroundings.

He picks Holiday decorations that complement the space. "It’s like choosing the perfect decorative pillow or throw to pull the colors of a room together," says Glynn.
