About the Pro Football Hall of Fame

The Pro Football Hall of Fame was opened in September of 1963 in Canton Ohio.  The Hall of Fame originally had 17 Hall of Famers, and now there are a total of 287 members. While players outside of the National Football League are included in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, there is an understandable emphasis on NFL players. The Hall of Fame was built in Canton due to its ties to the origins of the NFL. Since the original ground breaking, several expansions have been made to accommodate the growing membership and special exhibits.

Exhibits at the Pro Football Hall of Fame

There are many exhibits for football lovers to peruse when they visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  In addition to the busts of the Hall of Fame members, the exhibits at the Pro Football Hall of Fame include the Pro Football today Gallery, which keeps track of notable moments in the 2014 NFL Season, as well as traveling exhibits and those that are there for a limited time.  The current featured exhibits are the Super Bowl Theatre, and a retrospective on the career of artist, actor, author and professional football player Ernie Barnes.

Events at the Pro Football Hall of Fame

The big event at the Pro Football Hall of Fame is obviously when the new members are inducted.  The Class of 2014 included Derrick Brooks, Claude Humphrey, Ray Guy, Walter Jones, Andre Reed, Michael Strahan, and Aeneas Williams.  The ceremony was held at Pro Football Hall of Fame Field in August. That weekend there is also a Hall of Fame football game held at the field, and tickets are available to the public for both events, known as Enshrinement Weekend.
