Located near the city of Folsom, California, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area offers 19,564-acres of picturesque land to explore. The Area has offered fun activities since 1956. From hiking to fishing, there are numerous activities for guest to participate in. There are several places to launch a boat around the Lake Folsom and the marina at Brown’s Ravine offers towing services, gas dock and snack bar. Pack a basket full of delicious treats, and take the family out for a fun excursion. Picnicking in the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is allowed at Nimbus Flat and Negro Bar on Lake Natoma, and at Beals Point, Granite Bay, the Peninsula area, and Folsom Point. The Park has 95 miles of trails for hikers, bicyclists, runners and walkers to enjoy! A portion of the Western States/Pioneer Express Trail is within the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. For all you cyclists out there, the Bicycle Trail loops around the beautiful Lake Natoma and links to Beals Point. A popular mountain bike path is the Darrington Trail, located on the south fork arm of Folsom Lake, near the Salmon Falls area.


For those wishing for an easy trek, the Oak Nature Trail is just what you are looking for. This path offers great views of the lake and allows hikers to gain a better understanding for the area’s plants and animals. Scattered along the trail are interpretive stops, each of which explain an important element that helps sustain the fantastic area. Hikers will learn about the Galls on the giant oak trees, native birds, acorns, scrub jays, creatures of the night, and so much more!


Be sure to pack your fishing rod, because the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area offers the Nimbus Flats Fishing Area. Along Lake Natoma, there is a pier and fishing platform near the picnic area for visitors to use at their own leisure. Sit back and relax while appreciating the picturesque area.
