Places to Visit in Colorado During Summer

Colorado Select Registry – April 17, 2014

Colorado attracts tens of millions of visitors each year, making tourism a multi-billion dollar industry in the state. You may immediately start thinking of Denver, and rightfully so, since it is the 23rd most populous state in the country. However, there are many exciting places to visit in Colorado aside from the capital city. So after you fly into Denver and tour the Mile High City this summer, you should also make a point to see Colorado Springs, Estes Park, and Durango.

A trip to Denver in the summer has to include a little bit of America’s favorite pastime – the game of baseball. The Colorado Rockies play at Coors Field downtown, which is also home to the original Blue Moon Brewery. Before the game you can take a stroll through the 16th Street Mall and shop at some of the finest stores in the country, or you can experience the local culture at the Denver Art Museum.

Colorado Springs

Visit the Air Force Academy when you travel to Colorado Springs, and be sure to take your camera. The USAFA Chapel is one of the most beautiful pieces of architecture you can see! People who like the outdoors also need to visit Pikes Peak and the Garden of the Gods, and if you want to hang out with furry creatures, head to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.

Estes Park

Estes Park is a small town of 5,800 people and sits at an elevation of 7,522 feet. Summer temperatures rest in the 70s, making it the perfect place to be outside. This popular summer resort town also serves as the headquarters for Rocky Mountain National Park and lies along the Big Thompson River.

Durango is another mountain town that is located in the southwest corner of the state. And speaking of corners, it is very near Four Corners National Monument – the only place in the United States where you can stand in four states at one time (Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona). You can also start your day with a river rafting trip, and then end your night with a visit to the Ska Brewery. -- Select Registry Distinguished Inns of North America features five member properties in the state of Colorado. Each of these Colorado Bed and Breakfasts has proven its quality time and again and would be a perfect place for you to stay when traveling in the area.
