Warren’s and my 35th anniversary was this September so we decided to head to the hill country of Texas for a long weekend. Although some of our friends were surprised that we would go for a vacation in our home state, the hill country is absolutely beautiful and made for a wonderful anniversary getaway.
We went first to Fredericksburg, TX, where there are delightful places to eat, neat antique shops, and many things to do. That afternoon we arrived at Rose Hill Manor, a luxurious bed and breakfast in a beautiful home just outside of Fredericksburg. Patti showed us to the roomy Green Suite, and we had time to sit on the porch and enjoy the view before dinner. We had a wonderful dinner, capped off by a specially decorated Hummingbird cake (no birds were hurt in the process) – a sweet treat from the chef! Satisfied, we chose a movie from their big selection of DVDs and called it a night. The next morning, after a delicious breakfast of a smoothie and French toast, we were on our way.
Our next bed and breakfast was one that people we met in Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia and California told us not to miss: Inn Above Onion Creek. On the way there, we stopped at Bella Vista Ranch where we learned all about the olive growing industry and had an olive oil tasting. We purchased several bottles of olive oil and balsamic vinegar for Warren to use when cooking.
Amy met us when we arrived at the inn and showed us to our beautiful and spacious suite, The Nance Suite, where a basket of goodies including lavender hand cream and body wash was waiting for us. Our stay at the Inn Above Onion Creek was everything everyone had told us and more. We had time to explore some of the 100 acres surrounding the inn and time to relax on the porch swing. The three-course dinner that night was amazing, as was breakfast the next morning. After receiving a massage at the spa, we regretfully said our goodbyes and pointed the car towards home. It was another special weekend given to us by Select Registry and the wonderful hosts of Rose Hill Manor and the Inn Above Onion Creek. - Janet
