Sheldon Cooper from CBS’s Big Bang Theory loves trains. His love of trains has been the topic of several episodes of the hit television series. If your passion for trains outshines Sheldon’s then you will be excited to learn that several Select Registry inns are partnering with Lionel Trains for a Holiday promotion.
When visiting any of the participating inns, you will find a special Lionel Train under their tree, as well as Lionel Train ornaments on their tree. Once you see these delightful trains, you may decide you would like to have one in your home. All of the participating inns will have order forms available.
Be sure to snap a photo of the train and decorations when you visit one of these inns. You can then use the photo to enter the "Home For the Holidays" photo contest.
If we have piqued your curiosity, you can see the beautiful trees and trains at any of the following Select Registry Inns:
- The Inn at the Round Barn Farm, Waitsfield, VT
There are several ways to make the trip to see the trains at this inn even more fun. If you plan to visit before December 16, take advantage of their beer tour package. If you visit and choose their Country Christmas Package, enjoy a holiday welcome gift, a gourmet breakfast daily, a gingerbread making class, a sleigh ride for two and more. The Inn at Round Barn Farm and their Lionel train displays were featured on the local news.
- Glen-Ella Springs Inn, Clarksville, GA
Glen-Ella Springs Inn is a perfect inn to participate in this promotion because much of their history is related to trains. When the inn was started back in the 1800s it was near the Tallulah Falls railroad line and the original innkeepers, Glen and Ella, frequently transported guests between the inn and the railway.
- Captain Lord Mansion, Kennebunkport, ME
This inn is only 10 minutes away from a current railway. Ride the rails with Amtrak and Amtrak Downeaster to Wells, Maine. Contact the innkeepers in advance to arrange for transport from there to the inn. Take advantage of the inn’s Christmas special and stay three consecutive days, including Christmas day, and your stay for Christmas Day will be free of charge.
- Castle in the Country, Allegan, MI
We recommend taking advantage of the inn’s Anniversary Special while visiting their Lionel Trains. Celebrate their purchase of the inn by taking $50 off your weeknight stay (Sunday-Thursday) of two nights or more in any of their 8 whirlpool/fireplace suites when you Book Now through December 23, 2013.
- Chanticleer Inn, Lookout Mountain, GA
Take advantage of the inn’s Enchanted Getaway Package for a truly unforgettable Holiday getaway. The package includes tickets for two adults to Rock City’s Garden of Lights, a Chanticleer Inn ornament, two coffee mugs, a delicious moonshine cake, dinner for two, and more.
- Inn at Warner Hall, Gloucester, VA
Visit the inn on Sunday, December 15 for a delightful Holiday event complete with an appearance by Santa. In addition to getting your photo taken with Santa, singing Christmas carols and sipping hot cocoa, guests can also be included into a special prize drawing for a Classic Lionel Silver Bells Christmas train.
- McCaffrey House, Twain Harte, CA
Amtrak rails run within 30 minutes of Twain Harte so you can enjoy a train ride as part of your travels to this High Sierra Mountain inn. Once there you can enjoy the nature and beautiful vistas that abound in the area.

- Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls, Logan, OH
Have fun with a train-themed Holiday getaway to Ohio. Relax by the train themed tree at the inn before heading out the Hocking Valley’s Annual Santa Train. The train operates each Saturday and Sunday through December 22.
- The Shelburne Inn & China Beach Retreat, Seaview, WA
Enjoy the trains at the inn and take part in the festivities celebrating the area’s railway history. This year commemorates the 125th anniversary of the first run by the Ilwaco Railway & Navigation Company from Ilwaco to Long Beach. The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum is hosting an exhibition of photographs and artifacts that explore the many ways railroads helped to develop this region, including logging railroads, jetty railroads, Sand Island railroad and the “Clamshell Railroad”.
- Glen Gordon Manor, Huntly, VA
In addition to the Lionel Trains at the inn, explore some railway history in the nearby city of Front Royal. The last passenger train ran there in 1946 and the last freight train in 1959, but remnants can be seen today. Visit the former Southern station that is now a visitor’s center.
- Swift House Inn, Middlebury, VT
The Inn is offering a discount for this special season. Stay two nights and receive a 15% discount, 3 nights and receive an 18% discount, or 4 nights and receive a 20% discount, in addition to a holiday present for all guests. Be sure to ask about their Vermont Christmas dinner too.
- Montford Inn, Norman, OK
Ride the Heartland Flyer from Oklahoma City, Ok, to Fort Worth, TX, on the Annual Santa Train on Saturday December 14. During the trip that runs right through Norman, Santa will be handing out candy canes and visiting with children onboard.
- Fairview Inn, Jackson, MS
Jackson has many events scheduled that will help you celebrate the holidays. From A Christmas Carol at the New State Theatre to the Belhaven Singing Christmas Tree and the Chimneyville Crafts Festival to Cookies with Santa, you will have a hard time deciding how to spend your time.
- Asa Ransom Inn, Clarence, NY
We sincerely doubt that the promotional Lionel Train will be the only one on display at the Asa Ransom Inn. Owner/Innkeeper Bob Lenz is a huge train buff. He is known as Amtrak Bob. Train is always his first mode of transportation whenever possible. We can only dream of the extent of his train decorations and paraphernalia that will be on display at the inn.
- The National House Inn, Marshall, MI
December is the perfect time to visit historic Marshall. Even if you miss the Candlelight Tour on December 7 and 8, you will still find streets, parks and homes beautifully decorated throughout the season. In addition, local shops are filled to the brim for your shopping pleasure.
- Shafer-Baillie Mansion, Seattle, WA
In addition to the festivities at the inn, guests to the Shafer-Baillie Mansion should take part in the Lights of Christmas festival in Stanwood. The celebration includes more than one million lights, live music, story-telling, train rides, and more.
- The Bellmoor, Rehoboth Beach, DE
Viewing the Rehoboth Beach events calendar gives the impression that that whole town is celebrating for the entire month of December. Festivities include plays such as “A Christmas Carol,” carol sings, lighting ceremonies, and charity benefits.
While making reservations at any of the participating Select Registry inns, be sure to ask what holiday packages and specials they have available. Once enjoying the comforts of the inn, ask about the best way to enjoy the local festivities in the area and at the inn.
