"Not only does one drink wine, but one inhales it, looks at it,
tastes it-and then talks about it." Edward VII
"Give me a bowl of wine; in this I bury all unkindness." Earl
Heenan
Last year, over $25 billion worth of table
wine was produced and sold in the U.S. and Canada. From California,
Washington, Oregon, and New York, to British Columbia, Ontario and elsewhere,
wineries are producing the fruit of the vine-and innkeepers are serving
it to their guests.
At many Select Registry properties-whether
in conjunction with a fine dinner or as a convivial amenity for guests-regional
domestic wines are featured along side fine French, Italian and Australian
vintages.
A number of our members are rightfully proud of their
wine cellars-some of which, like the
Carter House Inns in Eureka, California-contain thousands of bottles. Quite a few have received Wine
Spectator Awards of Excellence; the Silver Thatch Inn in Charlottesville,
Virginia has received the Spectator's Award of Excellence for fifteen
years in a row, for example.
Several others-like Friends Lake Inn-have received the
publication's prestigious Grand Award. Jordan, Ontario's Inn on the
Twenty is home to Cave Spring Cellars, which produces wine of great
flavor and intensity using traditional methods and varietals such as
Chardonnay, Merlot and Riesling.
If you are looking for that special bottle of wine-served
in the best settings from New York to British Columbia-look no further.
Our search function will allow you to find the inns with
the best to offer in the way of wine, in locations across the continent.
Salut!
