Lewis and Clark Trail - Reaching the Pacific-

Accompanied by the Shoshone Woman, Sacajawea and the African-American slave of William Clark, York, these explorers transformed the American West. The vision was the dream-child of Thomas Jefferson. Today the trail winds from Saint Charles to the top of the Missouri, crosses the Rocky Mountains then follows the majestic Columbia River to its culmination at the Pacific Ocean. Select Registry Inns begin in Saint Charles, MO (Boone's Lick Trail Inn), continue through Nez Pierce Country in Idaho (Hearthstone Lodge), snake through the Columbia Gorge (Columbia Gorge Hotel)and More...

Piloting their wooden canoes through miles of turgid river water, waterfalls and freshets, the Corps of Discovery stared
in awe as this prehistoric gorge unfurled magically before them. Today those vistas greet the visitor with the same sence of discovery and surprise as that rugged group of explorers. Perched three-hundred feet at the top of one of those majestic cliffs, the Columbia Gorge Hotel calls out like a siren song to the weary traveler.

| This is the rugged but beautiful destination that greeted the Corps of Discovery in 1805. Today the vistas are as enchanting as on that blustery afternoon when Meriwether Lewis stood on a craggy outcropping at Cape Disappointment. The Select Registry is proud to be represented by the Shelburne Inn and China Beach Retreat on this last mile of the Lewis and Clark Trail.

| An unspoiled 28-mile stretch of wild Pacific seacoast with rolling sand dunes, beach grasses and crimson sunsets. Willapa Bay (the most pristine bay in the forty-eight contiguous states)borders the Peninsula to the east. The Columbia River defines the south boundry. Known for rich seafoods, wild mushrooms and indiginous delectibles. The Shelburne Inn in Seaview has been a popular destination for 105 years, and is proud to be a member of the Select Registry. Along with the cozy, antique filled rooms, the food is sensational. China Beach is the Shelburne's smaller sister property, and sits on a pristine vista just inside the mouth of the Columbia River, resting at the end of the Lewis and Clark trek.

| Lewis and Clark stumbled into the Nez Perce camp,
half-starved, and were saved by this famous tribe.
They wintered for several weeks while their health
was restored. Again, a native woman saved the Corps.
On the return journey in 1806, the Nez perce again
assisted the party.
