The Pentagoet has been welcoming guests to Maine since it was built as a steamboat era hotel in 1894 and continues a tradition of gracious hospitality. This authentic Queen Anne Victorian has a wraparound porch, three story turret, extensive perennial gardens and renowned window boxes. The inn has been lovingly restored for the comfort of today’s discerning traveler. You will feel at home with the charming mix of antiques and collectibles, fine linens and amenities. Overlooking Penobscot Bay the entire village of Castine is on the National Historic Register. Just being here in this vintage seaside village is often all our guests desire.

Our concierge can plan itineraries for kayaking, sailing, hiking, antiques and art galleries, there are guest bikes for a sunset pedal to the lighthouse. We are centrally located for daytrips to Camden, Blue Hill, Deer Isle, Stonington, Acadia and Bar Harbor. We invite you to dinner in our nationally recognized restaurant. Enjoy our exceptional home cooking that honors the classics in its soulful simplicity, bowing to the seasons and our local farms. Enjoy a glass of wine before dinner or stop in for a wine tasting with our sommelier in "The Baron Pub and Wine Bar",  the "utterly fascinating Pub," according to Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report.

Summer Jazz on the Porch series is Tuesday nights July-August offering cocktail specials and grilled small plates.

More about our rooms

Our farm-to-table restaurant serves dinner most evenings.  Julie Van de Graaf, owner and executive chef, uses ingredients that are local, fresh from the farms and waters that surround us. The menu features lobster and local shellfish, native fish and game, New England specialties and fine desserts. The Baron Pub and Wine Bar offers a selection of interesting wines researched by our sommelier Bill Zildjian. Stop in for a glass of wine or one of our specialty cocktails before dinner. Reservations are suggested for seating on the porch, our intimate dining rooms, or cozy pub.

A day at the inn starts with early morning coffee outside your door, followed by our full country breakfast. A variety of breakfast entrees are cooked for you every morning featuring Maine blueberries picked at a local farm, homemade granola, savory egg dishes, our famous pancakes and sour cream waffles, muffins and scones warm from the oven. A table for two is set for you in the dining room or on the back porch. You’ll be well fortified for the day’s explorations!
