Food at Ormsby Hill -- a Memorable Experience

At Ormsby Hill we give you permission to eat splendid food in our Conservatory with windows facing the mountains without having to feel guilty about it!! Our reputation for excellent food is nationally acclaimed and your dining experience will be truly one of the highlights of your visit.

"...a breakfast that'll knock your socks off..."  Yankee Magazine's Travel Guide   "...perhaps the best breakfasts in Vermont." says New England Travel.

Chris, the chef/innkeeper, has built her reputation for culinary skills during her ten years of innkeeping. She grew up with a dad who owned a gourmet food store, she has always been around good food, and cooking is her passion and hobby.

Chris published her first cookbook in 1992, and it continues to be well received. In addition, she has been featured in national publications, and she was honored as a Yankee Magazine Great New England Cook.  Visit www.inndulgence.com to view Chris's cooking show.

Upon your arrival, you will be welcomed in your room with a plate of very special cookies baked by Chris -- from a poppyseed madeleine to an almond crescent to a triple chocolate chocolate chip cookie. They are all irresistible.

Breakfasts at Ormsby Hill are truly memorable. On quiet mornings, a full breakfast is served at 9:00. On busier mornings, a buffet is served between 8:00 and 10:00, with a hot entree served at 9:00 - followed by dessert (yes, dessert!). Some examples of hot entrees are a breakfast bacon-and-egg risotto, a risotto with wild mushrooms, polenta. Chris's famous baked pancakes that look like a top hat, raisin bread-and-butter pudding, ricotta cheese pies, scrambled eggs in puff pastry, and many forms of frittatas and stratas.   Here are some examples of those mouth-watering desserts -- peach crisp with white chocolate sauce, apple and pear cobbler with vanilla ice cream, cranberry/allmond crumble with vanilla ice cream, blueberry and nectarine crisp with vanilla ice cream, warm gingerbread with vanilla whipped cream. You get the picture - YUM!!!

Vermont Maple Apple Crisp

What could be more fall-like than apples and maple syrup? At our inn we serve dessert for breakfast and this is definitely one of our guests’ favorites. This is a recipe I created for The Kellogg Company as a promotion for a new cereal, which launched in April 1999, called Country Inn Specialties Inn at Ormsby Hill Blend. Having a cereal named after your inn is quite an honor. You can also serve this for dessert. Serve it warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
