Welcome into the Legend of Glenlaurel...A Scottish Country Inn and Cottages

Glenlaurel, a Scottish Country Inn with Wooded Cottages and Crofts has been labeled the "premier romantic getaway in the Midwest." Located one hour southeast of Columbus, Ohio in the Hocking Hills, the 140-acre estate offers unpretentious elegance in its lodging and fine dining. The setting is a heavily wooded series of walking trails, rock cliffs and waterfalls. The old-world elegance of the Inn and the secluded, peaceful setting are ideal for romantic nights for two, peaceful getaways for one, weddings and business conferences.

Come and experience the look of the Scottish countryside and the feel of times gone by at this luxurious storybook getaway. Lazy, kidless afternoons, sumptuous fine dining for two, hot tub frolics, intimate fireside conversation, sleeping past seven, a hearty breakfast and a morning walk through our Camusfearna Gorge with ne'er a soul in sight. Everybody deserves a wee bit o'Glenlaurel!

Your visit to Glenlaurel will be laced with romance; from the moment the Manor House comes into view at the driveway entrance until it fades into the tree line from the rearview mirror at departure...the warm welcome at the front door feels like arriving at the stately home of a distant but approachable relative where the children are all grown or away for the weekend.

Enjoy Hocking Hills where the entire southeastern part of Ohio is considered Appalachian Highlands. The most interesting district in the Appalachian Highlands is called Hocking Hills. When the last ice age moved through Ohio thousands of years ago, it missed this unique area leaving behind wondrous rock & waterfall formations that lie within the Glenlaurel Estate and the seven State Parks, within a 10 mile radius, that form the Hocking Hills State Park System.

During your visit, take a hand-in-hand walk in our gorge, a nap in a hammock for two, a snuggle on the sofa before the gas-log fireplace or an indulgent nap in late afternoon, all of which are the ingredients of an intimate stay at Glenlaurel. Rekindle the romance at the only Scottish Inn for adults in the Midwest. Don't expect computers or TV's and cell phones often can't connect. The trade-off is discovering one of the most peaceful and romantic places in the Hocking Hills.

When visiting Glenlaurel, there are several choices of accommodation where "ye may raist yer weary haid" for the night. Come along on an overview tour and feel free to stop off at any point.

The Manor House

This residence you first saw on arriving at our website overlooks our own private gorge trail, Camusfearna Gorge. It is truly the crown jewel of Glenlaurel-the original home of the Laird. Its cheery facade of stone and stucco gives way to the fabled carved mantle in the parlor, three dining rooms, the Loch Ness pub, the Waif's Haven kitchen, two guest rooms, and two guest suites. Rates: $189/$219 weeknights, $229/$269 weekends.

The Carriage House

The nearby Carriage House has one guest suite and one guest room. Upstairs, the Robertson Garret has a private bath, a kitchenette, and a private sitting area. Downstairs, the Douglas Highlander Suite has a two-person whirlpool tub, kitchenette, and a large private deck. Rates: $159/$219 weeknights, $189/$269 weekends.

Crofts

The four east crofts (intimate cottages) are a five-minute walk from the Manor House, and there is parking at each of the crofts. Each croft has a kitchenette, living room, queen bedroom, gas log fireplace, screened porch, and hot tub on a private deck overlooking Camusfearna Gorge.

The three west crofts are tucked into the edge of the Hamlet. They are about a ten minute walk from the Manor House and also accessible by car. Each croft contains one spacious room with queen bed, gas log fireplace, two fireside easy chairs, and hot tub on a private deck overlooking Bannock Burn Ravine. Rates: $249 weeknights, $299 weekends.

Cottages

The pinnacle lodging experience at Glenlaurel is a stay in one of the cottages in the Hamlet. These six delightful little wooded hideaways are a ten-minute walk from the Manor House, and are also accessible by car. Each cottage starts with a grand living room window to the woods, stone fireplace with gas logs and carved mantle, ample room to lounge at fireside, and a kitchenette. The bath offers room for two in the shower, vanity, and walk-in closet. The bedroom has a king sized sleigh bed, gas log stove, entertainment center (movie viewing only, DVD format) and double French doors facing east. The private deck has a luxury hot tub, speakers from your entertainment center for listening to CDs while you soak. Each cottage overlooks its own private garden and either the Camusfearna Gorge or the Bannock Burn Ravine. Rates for all cottages: $299 weeknights, $349 weekends.

Enjoy your candlelit meal surrounded by nature - from deer, to bunnies, and birds, and other creatures of nature, you're sure to rest in comfort at Glenlaurel. Evenings begin with social time at 6:30pm with hors d'oeuvres, followed by a leisurely six or seven-course candlelit dinner .

As our dinner guests, you are invited to experience a leisurely evening of exceptional culinary creativity in an atmosphere of unpretentious country elegance. By 6:30 in the evening, you may join some of the other house and dinner guests at Happy Half Hour in the Loch Ness Pub or at Brigadoon Landing, the Grand Deck off the Manor House. Since the township is dry, no alcoholic beverages are sold. However, you are welcome to bring your own spirits that will be served to you in the Pub or during dinner.

At 7:00 you will enter the Edinburgh Dining Room with its hand-carved mantle and hewn table for ten to take your reserved candlelit table for two in the Glasgow or St. Andrew’s Dining Rooms. After all guests are seated, the host for the evening offers a warmly delivered “Welcome into the Legend…” followed by brief words of some poet of note.

If you’re dining Sunday through Friday night, you’ll be served our six-course dinner with a different entrée each evening. $49 per person plus tax and gratuity. You may call ahead to determine the single entrée to be served on any given evening.

If you’re dining on Saturday, you’ll feast on our seven-course signature dinner. Designed for its delicacy in taste and presentation, this grazing fantasy assures that you are sated-only. $59 per person plus tax and gratuity. Sports jacket requested, no tie required.
