Relax at the Inn with your favorite book. You can watch outside for the appearance of deer, wild turkeys, moose, hawks, or hummingbirds. You can also enjoy the outdoor recreation and area activities available in Mt. Washington Valley. You will find a listing of just some of your choices in our Area Activities section.
Unwind with afternoon tea and home baked treats in front of one of our traditional wood burning fireplaces in either our large living room or the Mt. Surprise Room when days are cool. You can select a spot in the sun or shade in one of our Adirondack chairs or take a dip in our heated pool or soak in our open air hot tub with a view of the mountains and forest by day or stars by night. We'll be glad to help you with dinner plans at one of many area restaurants, which offer everything from local to ethnic cuisine in a casual or fine dining atmosphere.

Each individually decorated guest room at The Buttonwood Inn has a private bath with mountain, forest, and garden views. Rooms are furnished with a king, queen, or twin beds. Some of our rooms offer guests a fireplace, a two-person Jacuzzi, and wheelchair accessibility. All rooms have central A/C, a radio alarm clock, telephone, and hair dryer, digital TV's with DVD players and cable TV channels.

Before breakfast, we offer our guests an early coffee and tea service for early risers to enjoy in front of the fireplace in our living room or take back to their guest rooms. You can sip your coffee or tea in our specially designed hand-thrown stoneware mugs with an artist’s rendering of The Buttonwood Inn by Deneen Pottery.
Later in the Dining Room, a full gourmet breakfast is served beginning with either home-baked Pumpkin-Walnut, Banana-Coconut, or Rhubarb-Honey Ginger breads. Other starters may be Apricot-Orange or Golden Raisin Scones, Buttonwood Donut Muffins, Maple Cinnamon Rolls, Apple-Pecan or Pumpkin Pie Spice Muffins, warm Fruit Crisp with Granola topping, or a cool fresh Fruit Salad with Raspberry sauce topping.
Savory entrees may include a Mushroom-Sausage and Cheddar Cheese Strata, Baked Cheddar Cheese and Spinach Omelet, Scrumptious Scramble Topped with Chopped Tomato, Red Onion and Dill along side Roasted Red Bliss Rosemary Potatoes, or Southwestern Hash and Eggs.
Sweet entrees may consist of a Baked French Toast with Wild Maine Blueberry Topping, “lighter than air” Yeasted Belgian Waffles, or Pancakes of several varieties like Lemon-Scented with Blueberries, Banana-Pecan, Apple Cinnamon, Blackberry Cornmeal, or Whole Wheat with Strawberry Sauce. These entrees are served with New Hampshire made maple syrup and either thick-sliced bacon or Paula’s homemade breakfast sausage.
All of our foods are prepared fresh with local New Hampshire products and we serve award-winning maple syrup purchased from Fullers Sugarhouse in Lancaster, NH. Note that most entrees can be modified for gluten-free or vegetarian diets.
Afternoon Tea
A variety of English teas, hot chocolate (in colder months), or lemonade or iced tea (in warmer months) are served each late afternoon in our Dining Room. Paula will also bake a treat of either “killer” Chocolate Brownies, Oatmeal Raisin-Chocolate Chip Cookies, Pecan Shortbreads, Coconut Macaroons, Triple Chocolate Walnut Cookies, Coconut Madeleines, Carrot Cake Bars with Cream Cheese Icing, Mini Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Ganache Icing, Streusel Cupcakes, or Fruited Pistachio Balls, just to name a few.
Guests can enjoy their refreshments in either our spacious but cozy Living Room or Mt. Surprise Room warmed by the fireplaces when it’s cold outside. On warmer days, guests like to relax in one of the rockers on the front porch watching the hummingbirds, or sit in an Adirondack chair near the flower gardens taking in our mountain views listening to the birds sing.

Plan your next small corporate meeting, retreat, or reunion at The Buttonwood Inn where your schedule is our schedule. For a successful meeting or social gathering, each group is given exclusive use of the Inn. You have total flexibility in planning your day. We’ve had great success with a small business retreat (up to 20 people) catering a group dinner in our spacious Dining Room, serving an early morning breakfast and mid-morning coffee and tea service with mini muffins and scones. We can also arrange a golf outing, train ride, hiking or shopping excursions, etc.
Every November, a women’s group books the inn for a weekend of shopping and merriment. In addition to breakfast and afternoon tea service with treats, we also make a group dinner reservation. After a day of shopping, we put out Holiday wrapping paper, ribbon, bows, etc. for gift wrapping. The Mt. Surprise Room is piped in with music for the annual Saturday night party where the women bring in drinks and appetizers and party until they drop.
If you reserve The Buttonwood Inn for your next business meeting or social gathering, you can use either, our L-shaped Living Room, large Dining Room, or the Mt. Surprise Room. During the warmer months, you can also enjoy the front porch and gardens during breaks.
A full country breakfast is included daily: fresh baked quick breads, scones or muffins, and a special entree that changes daily. Menus can be arranged for Lunch or Supper meals at the Inn; or, we will happily make reservations for your group at one of our wonderful local restaurants.
