Founded in 1849, Groveland was a rough-and-ready gold mining town at Yosemite's front door. The orginal name of the town was Garrote. The original adobe Groveland Hotel was constructed about 1849 and modeled after the Larkin House in Monterey. At the height of the Gold Rush, it was known as "The Best House on the Hill." The best of it all is that Yosemite National Park entrance is just 23 miles away! Historic Yosemite lodging facility is the ideal base for all sorts of recreation in Tuolumne County, California! There's even an airport just five minutes away.
