Beside the Battle Road the Minutemen marched in 1775 to face the British Regulars, the Hawthorne Inn (circa 1870), was constructed on land once owned by Emerson, Hawthorne, the Alcott family, and surveyed by Thoreau. Amidst aged trees and bountiful gardens this colourful Inn beckons the traveler to refresh the spirit in a winsome atmosphere abounding with original artworks, antique furnishings and archaic artifacts. With a copy of 'Walden' or 'Little Women' in hand, bask near the whispering fire or be led by the resident cat, to a garden seat for a spot of tea.
