Local Attraction

Mumford is a small hamlet Southwest of Rochester New York. Our attractions include the Genesee Country Museum an 19th Century restored village that is less than a mile from our Inn. We are also 30 minutes from downtown Rochester where the Strong Museum and the George Eastman House are available to while away your day. We are east of Niagara Falls and North of Letchworth State Park and the Corning Museum of Glass. We are also close to Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Rochester, SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Brockport, Roberts Wesleyan College, Genesee Community College and Monroe Community College.

  • Susan B Anthony House: The Susan B. Anthony House was the home of the legendary American civil rights leader during the most politically active period of her life, and the site of her famous arrest for voting in 1872.
  • Sonnenberg Gardens: A beautiful Victorian mansion and gardens, located at the north end of Canandaigua Lake, in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region in Upstate New York.
  • Abbey of the Genesee: Come visit the quiet and serenity of this Trappist Monastery. And while you're their enjoy some of their "Monk's Bread" baked at the Abbey.

  • Letchworth State Park: (Travel time 20 minutes Rte 36S to North entrance. Known as The Grand Canyon of the East.

  • The George Eastman House Museum: A wonderful museum showcasing the history of photography and the life of George Eastman developer of the Brownie camera and founder of Eastman Kodak Company.
  • The Genesee Valley Greenway: The Genesee Valley Greenway is one of hundreds of greenways being developed across the nation along oId canals, abandoned rail beds, and riverbanks. It passes through scenic woodlands, river and stream valleys, rolling farmlands, steep gorges, and historic villages located in sixteen towns in Monroe, Livingston, Wyoming, Allegany, and Cattaraugus counties in New York State.
  • Casa Larga Vineyards: A family owned winery located in Fairport NY just 45 minutes from the Inn. Known for their award-winning Ice Wines.
  • Deer Run Winery: A new local winery located 20 minutes from the Inn!
 

Mumford has many activities in the area to keep you busy. Antiquing, biking, hiking and fishing are just a few things you can do while staying with us. Mumford is the center of one of New York State's finest trout fishing areas. Spring Creek and Oatka Creek provide fly-fisherman's paradise. The Genesee Country Museum Nature Center and Letchworth State Park provide hiking trails of varying difficulty. For those who would like to bike, our quiet country roads provide a wonderful venue. There are also several areas of the Erie Canal that have hiking and biking trails along their banks. For those who prefer less strenuous activities there are many antique stores in the area to keep you busy.

  • Bird Watching: Genesee Country Village and Museum has done work in the restoration of the bluebird.
  • Fishing: Year round trout fishing is available in our back-yard. Spring Creek is noted for its native brook trout. Oatka Creek has browns and some rainbows. The Caledonia Fish-Hatchery has a section of Spring Creek available just for fly-fishermen.
  • Nature Preserves / Trails: Genesee Country Village & Museum Nature Center and the MacKay Nature Reserve are located less than a mile from the Inn. Letchworth State Park, 20 minutes away has hiking trails
