English Scones  

Ingredients
 
1 cup all purpose flour
2 tsp. Baking powder
1 Tbs. sugar
1/2 tsp. Kosher salt
4 oz. (8 Tbs.) unsalted butter cut into 1/3 inch cubes
3/4 cup buttermilk
2 Tbs. Turbinado Sugar
 

Directions
 
Heat oven to 400.
Combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar in an electric mixer. Add butter and mix leaving the butter in chunks no less than half their original size.
On a low speed add 2/3 cup of buttermilk (sometimes you need a little more), stop mixing when dough begins to pull away from sides.
On floured waxed paper shape dough into a round disk. Cut into 12 triangular shapes, or scoop or drop dough on to a greased cookie sheet.
Brush tops with remaining buttermilk and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
Bake until brown 15-20 minutes.
