  • White Mountains: Choices abound as Adair is conveniently located near the 750,000 acre White Mountain National Forest
  • The Flume & The Basin.: 800 ft long natural gorge at the base of Mt. Liberty. Part of a 2 mile nature walk. Large granite pothole 20 ft in diameter at the base of a beautiful waterfall.
  • Franconia and Crawford Notches
  • Mount Washington
  • Lost River
  • Cog Railway: Three hour trip to the summit of Mt. Washington via coal-fired steam engines. Open May through October rain or shine. During ski season be sure to check out the ski train, ride the train up and ski down...an experience not to be missed!
  • Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway: The first passenger aerial tramway in No. America (circa 1938). Tram II takes passengers to the top of Cannon Mtn. (4200 ft) for panoramic views of the White and Green Mtns.
  • Kancamagus Highway: National scenic by-way

  • The Rocks Christmas Tree Farm: Run by the Society for the Protection of NH Forest as an educational facility, this 1200 acre estate is a working Christmas tree farm with whom we have "specials." Ask us about how to take home a Rocks Christmas tree.

Choices abound as Adair is conveniently located near the 750,000 acre White Mountain National Forest and numerous attractions both natural and man-made.

For our guests who simply want to relax and enjoy all that Adair has to offer, a grand old Oliver Briggs Boston pool table waits patiently for a game in the Granite Tap Room.  The warm fireplace, overstuffed club chairs and subdued lighting all provide a relaxing peaceful atmosphere.

>We have numerous books on hikes, waterfalls, lakes, and tours at the inn for our guests' use. Also, we have a notebook for your review with our guests' firsthand accounts of their hikes should you wish a more personal write up. Other books of local interest are also available to read at the inn.

Activities:

  • Hiking: we're within 30 minutes of both Franconia and Crawford Notches. Our guests have hiked Mt. Washington, Mt. Lafayette, Mt. Adams, among others.
  • Skiing - Downhill: we're within 30 minutes of Cannon Mountain, Bretton Woods, and Loon Mountain and approximately an hour of Tuckerman's Ravine, Waterville Valley, Burke Mountain, and Attitash Mountain.
  • Biking: mountain biking
  • Skiing - Cross Country: sizable nordic facilities are located at Bretton Woods and Waterville Valley; trails located here in Bethlehem at The Rocks and Bretzfelder Park.
  • Golf: there are 7 public/semiprivate courses within 30 minutes of the inn, including some of New Hampshire's most scenic courses, many designed by Donald Ross.
  • Tennis: available at Adair on our newly resurfaced court.
  • Canoeing/Kayaking: try Echo Lake and Connecticut River
  • Snowshoeing: snowshoeing ... available at various venues including on-property at Adair, Bretzfelder Park in Bethlehem and area nordic facilities. Don't have snowshoes but want to try? We have many pairs to lend or can recommend rental options in the area.
  • Sight-seeing: Numerous waterfalls, lakes and streams
  • Wildlife Watching: Keeping a watchful eye on the grounds that surround Adair can be rewarding. The Adair Green Program includes working with a forester to optimize Adair's land to attract butterflies, songbirds, and small animals. On occasion, our guests have even spotted a black bear and a moose.
  • Train Ride: into the White Mountains - from North Conway and Lincoln. Or try a dinner train from North Woodstock into the heart of the White Mountains.
  • Squash: nearby just outside of Littleton
  • Restaurants: Homemade ice cream-Bishops just minutes away in Littleton
  • Shopping: There are a variety of quaint shops in neighboring Bethlehem and Littleton. Among the more popular with our guests are the Village Bookstore (a favorite), Ammonoosuc Trading Company (antique store outside Littleton), League of NH Craftsman (fine crafts in Littleton), WRENOvation (more extraordinary crafts in Bethlehem) and Harman's Cheese Shop in Sugar Hill. If you want to take advantage of the absence of any sales tax in New Hampshire and do some "major league" shopping, it's a straight shot east (about 60 minutes) to North Conway, the outlet "Mecca" of northern New Hampshire featuring over 100 name-brand outlets.
