Green Program

"It's not easy being green ... " -- Kermit the Frog

At Adair green is our favorite color. It's in our logo, stationery, green towel cording, hall wallpaper and numerous gardens to mention but a few examples.

It is also symbolic of our approach to the environment.

Our "Green" program consists of four efforts.

First ... under the previous owners, Adair began recycling all of its cans, plastic and bottles a few years ago. We now include newspaper and magazines.

Second ... We here at Adair believe in using the resources we have to their fullest advantage so the vast amount of egg shells, fruit rinds and coffee grounds from each breakfast not to mention leaves and other natural sources get composted and used to keep our gardens healthy and beautiful. Our daily trips to the compost bins are worth the effort for we are well aware of the incredible value of composted soil in our gardens.

Third ... in an effort to reduce the amount of water and laundry detergent used daily to wash our towels and linens, we have begun to provide our guests the option of reusing their towels or requesting fresh ones. Our hope is that we can reduce the amount of phosphates and wastewater entering our septic field.

Fourth ... as a registered tree farm, we take forest management seriously. Our forester has developed a plan to harvest long neglected, overgrown stands of trees, planted new seedlings in areas recently cut, and "opened up" mature apple trees on the property to attract insects and wildlife. Additional efforts to attract butterflies, songbirds and small animals are in various stages of implementation.
