WELCOME TO WICKWOOD! We're a small inn located in the beautiful village of Saugatuck, Michigan, often called the Cape Cod of the Midwest. Saugatuck became a weekend resort town in the early part of the century, and quickly became renown as an artists' colony. Over the years, it has become a year round retreat for artists, jazz musicians from Chicago and big city folks from around the country who want to unwind. We're located two minutes from Douglas and 2 1/2 hours up the shore of Lake Michigan from Chicago. “We” are Bill and Julee Rosso Miller and we own Wickwood (ever since Julee sold The Silver Palate in New York, but that's a different story).
To enter the Wickwood is to be transported to another place in time. We want you to feel you've arrived at a different time and place from the outside world. We've created a retreat of coziness, privacy and calm that we want to meet your every dream, so that you can leave the real world at our door. It's time to pause, and live the way you do in your imagination and leave refreshed and recharged.
Wickwood is filled with just a few of our favorite things...French and English antiques, oriental rugs, over-stuffed chairs, vases of flowers, candlelight, a library of books, eclectic music, original drawings, oils and sculptures. There's generally a crackling fire in the living room fireplace and an aroma floats through the air from the kitchen.
We've created five rooms for all the guests to spend some time in – The Living Room, Library, Game Room, Garden Room, and Gazebo. Each is a wonderfully cozy place to linger over a few of our favorite books, write letters by the fireside, have a great conversation, play games, listen to music, watch television or daydream. It gives an added dimension to the cozy and eclectically decorated 11 guest rooms, each with private baths and many with fireplaces.
A day begins on your own personal timetable. Join us in the sun dappled Garden Room for breakfast or brunch with an ever-changing menu reflective of the seasons.
During the day, in every season of the year, there are loads of things to do in Saugatuck. There's golf galore, winery tours, tennis, bicycling, cross country skiing, canoeing, horseback riding, sandy beaches, sailing, boating, summer stock theater, chamber music, jazz festival, country music festival, farmers' market, orchards, blueberry picking, a zillion art galleries, outdoor juried art shows, antique shows, craft shows, house tours and garden shows. Our seasonal Saugatuck calendar will give you even more ideas.
At twilight, Wickwood guests gather for cocktails in the Garden Room. Complementary appetite-teasers and nibbles are meant to stimulate your palate, but not spoil your dinner. Our service bar is stocked with juices, garnishes and mixers. Feel free to bring your own favorite wine or liquor for cocktail time. The Inn is often the reason people venture to this out-of-the way haven along Lake Michigan, but we like to think it's the pampering and food that keep them coming back.
The Inn has been chosen by Country Inns, Bride's Magazine, Glamour, Bon Appetit, Travel and Leisure, and Victoria as one of America's most outstanding inns. Midwest Living readers have chosen Wickwood two years running as their favorite inn in the Midwest, and it has been selected by Travel and Leisure as one of the world's most romantic inns.
We'd love to have you join us at Wickwood. If you'd like to make a reservation, please call or fax the Inn as soon as you have your dates in mind as many of our guests return faithfully year after year, and we become booked fairly quickly. Many times friends, families or businesses book the entire Inn for a party, reunion or retreat. We look forward to having you visit with us.
