  • Mission Santa Ynez: The 19th in a chain of 21 Californaia missions; visitors can view furnishings and artifacts from the early 19th century. Other nearby missions are located in Santa Barbara, Lompoc, and San Luis Obispo.
  • Quicksilver Ranch: This 20 acre ranch is one of the largest miniature horse spreads on the west coast. A registered "miniature" horse must not exceed 34 inches in height. Good-natured, inquisitive, and intelligent, these animals make loving, adorable pets.
  • Hearst Castle: A magnificent estate built by publisher William Randolph Hearst. "The Enchanted Castle" with its 165 rooms, vast collection of art and antiques, exquisite pools and acres of gardens, comprise California's most impressive state Historical Monument. (approx 1.5 hours north)
  • Museums/Galleries: Visit the charming community of Los Olivos and discover all the artistic talent it holds.

  • Wine Country: Santa Barbara county is blessed with a climate and topography that make it a vintner's dream. Visit any of the 45 local wineries for year round wine tasting. In addition, wineries also welcome wine lovers to concerts, harvest parties, special dinners, and other fabulous events.

Stroll through our famous bakeries, designer outlet center, and enjoy the numerous antique/specialty shops.
  • Hiking: Nature Hikes - The Figueroa Mountain area is a fascinating place for the recreational aficionado. Specific self-guided hiking trail opportunities vary with the season. Winter months can find occasional snow, while springtime is the season for fantastic flower displays.
  • Boating: Cachuma Lake - This man-made lake is a fisherman's paradise. Activities offered range from boating and camping, to eagle watching and nature cruises. There's something for everyone.
  • Biking: Mountain Biking - The Santa Ynez Valley is one of the most beautiful and diverse cycling areas in California. Cyclists in search of rolling hills, astonishing vistas, and great weather will find our valley rewarding.
  • Sight-seeing: Ballard School - Right around the corner from the Ballard Inn, this historical landmark established in the late 1800's is still in operation. A great site for a picnic.
    Ostrich Land - On the way to Buellton, tour this unique facility of the World's largest birds.
    Nojoqui Falls - Take a scenic drive on Alisal Road and see a natural spring-fed waterfall.
    Hans Christian Andersen Park - Located in Solvang with tennis, a large playground, and a picnic area.
    Chumash Painted Caves - Take a leisurely drive on San Marcos Pass and visit the past.
    Apple Orchards - Choose among many in the valley. Select fresh or pick your own of the many different apple varieties available.
    Arabian and Thoroughbred Horse Ranches - Visit one of the many outstanding horse facilities the valley has to offer. Take a guided tour, or just wander around the beautiful grounds.
