Summer
Summer season begins in June and extends into early September. Montana has wonderful mild summers with temperatures in the 70's and 80's. Nightfall always cools down into the upper 30's to low 50's. Afternoon showers are always possible. Sunsets are spectacular-Montana is the "Big Sky" state and you'll really enjoy these sunsets from our patio overlooking our trout pond!
Fishing is consistent through-out these months. July is a super month for stoneflies, caddis and a variety of mayfly hatches. August brings hopper fishing and evening caddis hatches. Attractor dry flies work well also. September fishing is our favorite with cool nights, beautiful colors and a variety of mayflies, caddis and streamers fishing well by mid-month.
The Lodge is always quite busy in the summertime. You should contact us early for summer reservations.
We offer packages for couples, anglers and other travelers. Our rates for each guest include lodging, breakfast and dinner, and picnic lunches for your day trip or with your guide. Guides/Instructors, boats, and airport transportation are also available and can be included with any package.
We also offer one night stays at the Lodge during the months of June-September. These reservations are only accepted within two weeks of your scheduled arrival.
One day guide service is available for anyone year-round. You do not need to stay with us in order to take advantage of our guiding expertise. Have a look at our Rates page for more details on these services.
FALL IN THE YELLOWSTONE REGION
September, October and November are special months to visit Montana and enjoy our fishing and recreational experience. Wildlife in Yellowstone National Park are very active and near the Parks's roads during these months. Cool nights and Indian summer days are typical weather here with fast moving fronts offering overcast "baetis" dry fly type days. Fly fishing is super on our area rivers. Autumn color change usually occurs in late September through mid-October. November is a great brown trout month. We fish big streamer patterns that turn the biggest fish in the river. Floating is nice with fewer fishermen on the rivers. For more details on these packages, see our "Rates" page.
Winter at the Lodge
Alpine or nordic skiing at Big Sky or Bridger Bowl can be combined with an afternoon of fly fishing. Nightly accommodations and discounted daily guide service combine to provide a great value trip this time of year. Many of our guests enjoy a day visiting Yellowstone National Park by snow coach or snowmobile.
Also offered during the winter months, is our romantic getaway package . This package includes a night's lodging, dinner for two, a bottle of wine, and breakfast for just $225.00 plus tax and gratuity.
We also offer Christmas party services, day meetings and corporate retreats in the winter months. We have four meeting rooms available in our facility. "The Gallatin River Grill" is open seven nights a week, year-round.
Spring
Spring offers a diverse choice of activities. Fly fishing is great as our rivers warm up on sunny spring afternoons. Anglers enjoy solitude and a variety of spring hatches including baetis, caddis and midges. This is the "Local's season" and offers some of the best fishing of the year. Yellowstone Park opens for vehicle access and a day seeing young animals within the Park is a treat.
Gallatin River Lodge is an ideal facility for small conferences, retreats and weddings. We offer four meeting rooms.
Our ski areas are open until mid-April and a combination skiing/fly fishing package is available.
