Southern Maine Coast

Breathtaking coastal scenery, broad beaches of pure white sand, and quaint, picturesque New England villages mark the Southern Maine Coast. This Maine includes the historic coastal towns of York Harbor and Kennebunkport, the artistic community of Ogunquit, and the thriving city of Portland. Feast on lobster in the rough or dine at one of the many fine restaurants; explore classic lighthouses, secluded harbors and rocky shorelines, or shop at the Kittery Outlets, antique shops or local boutiques. Four seasons of activities include seasonal festivals, cultural events, historical museums, theater and nightlife. Beautiful sandy beaches, inlets and harbors offer endless opportunities--from swimming and sailing to sea kayaking and fishing. The Southern Maine Coast is a vacation paradise year-round.

A visitor to the southern coast of Maine can stay at any one of our six member properties and visit all the attractions highlighted below.

    Mid Coast Maine

All along the Mid-Coast, you'll discover lighthouses, charming villages, glacier-carved peninsulas, and grand panoramas. Come hide away at one of our acclaimed inns. Go antiquing, attend a country auction, browse irresistible shops, visit a museum, and take in a play or concert. Go biking or kayaking, sail on a famous windjammer, take a scenic train excursion, ferry to spectacular islands, or go sightseeing for seals, whales, puffins and dolphins. Join the fun at one of our special events, too! When it's time to dine, there's everything from salty to sophisticated, including plenty of just-caught lobster. In the winter, go skiing, skating, or tobogganing, or just curl up by the fire.

      Acadia/Down East Maine

Deer Isle, Maine offers you so much in such a small area! When you cross the bridge over the Reach, you'll experience a coastal, Down East island. I recommend you start your day with a drive around the island to view the many coves and inlets, dotted with lobster trap buoys, small boats, islands, and an occasional kayaker. Take a picnic lunch on one of the picturesque hiking trails and view the water while you eat. You might not see another person on your hike! Then, spend the afternoon in the village of Stonington to view the lobster boats as they bring in their catch, and browse in the galleries and gift shops. Many of the country's best artisans have settled on the island. Or, visit Isle au Haut, an island south of Deer Isle, accessible only by boat. Most of the land on Isle au Haut is part of Acadia National Park, and the hiking trails there are wonderful! Wonderful local seafood and organically-raised poultry and vegetables will fill your dinner table at one of the local restaurants. The next morning, take a guided kayak tour or a sailboat charter, each of which will give you a water viewpoint of Deer Isle and many of the small islands that surround Deer Isle.
