Cooking School Gourmet Weekends

Our third season of Cooking School Gourmet Weekends will begin in January 2007. These weekend packages have been very popular and the participants have given excellent reviews. Dixie Yates and Chef Mary Schlueter, partners in Two in the Kitchen Catering and Cooking School, will again present classes. Dixie Yates, co-owner of Yates House Bed and Breakfast in Rocheport, is a seasoned innkeeper and superb chef whose award-winning breakfasts have received national recognition. She is also the author of the recently published “Yates House Favorites” cookbook. Among her many accolades, according to Southern Living Magazine, “Dixie can flat cook.” Mary Schlueter, co-owner of Amber House Bed and Breakfast in Rocheport, is a professionally trained chef. She owned an exclusive catering company in Scottsdale for 6 years, worked as a chef at a desert retreat and in the spa kitchen of the world-renowned Boulders Resort. In her years as a cooking teacher she has presented literally hundreds of cooking classes. Both the Yates House and Amber House take part in weekend events. Gourmet cooking classes, fine dining, and a luxury weekend getaway make this an unbeatable opportunity! Friday night will begin with an icebreaker reception and “hands-on” hors d’oeuvres or simple supper and dessert class. Les Bourgeois Winery vintner Cory Bomgaars will do a wine tasting and presentation about pairing wines with foods. Saturday participants may choose free time shopping in Rocheport, enjoying the Katy Trail, or assisting in the kitchen as sous chef preparing for evening class. In the afternoon, participants will have an opportunity to attend a special “Vintners’ Tour” of Les Bourgeois Winery and select appropriate wines to accompany the evening meal. Saturday evening, class convenes and a full gourmet meal is prepared. Students will be “hands on” participants in preparing our recipes. Then a candlelight dinner of the prepared meal will be served to the students. Students will also receive a folder with the printed menu and recipes. Of course, two nights’ lodging and two wonderful breakfasts are included. 2007 GOURMET WEEKEND DATES (FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY) Jan. 19-20 Regional Italian Series: Foods of the Northern Region of the Piedmont Feb. 23-24 Sweet Heart Dinner: Romantic, Elegant dinner party March 23 - 24 Regional Italian Series: Foods of Bologna and Emilia Romagna April 13 - 14 Spring Dinner Party: The best of the bounty of spring incorporated into a seasonal menu May 4 - 5 Regional Italian Series: Warm Weather Trattoria: Foods of Central/ Southern Italy ideally suited for summer fare.
