Fodor's

Ken worked in the hotel business, Deborah in high-end retail display, and guests get the best of both worlds. This 1770 house, a stone's throw from the bustle of Main Street, has been respectfully yet lavishly restored. Guests are treated to Frette linens, plump duvets, and lush robes as well as a full gourmet breakfast served on the tree-shaded garden patio.

Frommer's

Sophisticated innkeepers Deborah & Ken Withrow have a terrific location for their historic 1770s property, just steps from Main Street yet in a quiet, residential section. Ken's experience in big hotels shows in the amenities and full concierge service offered here. The Withrows have completely restored the inn, highlighting its period charms and updating all amenities. Many rooms have canopied or four-poster beds; half have working fireplaces. All rooms are decorated with antique furniture and fixtures, and equipped with hair dryers. The comfortable beds are made up with egyptian cotton linens. Unlike many Nantucket inns that are forbidden by zoning laws to serve a full breakfast, this inn's location allows a superb complete breakfast on the garden patio. If you are hanging around in the afternoon, there are usually home-baked cookies or other goodies to sample as well.

Country Living Magazine

The Union Street Inn, just off Main Street, welcomes guests with elegant rooms and scrumptious country breakfasts.

Boston Magazine

About 30 paces from the lower end of cobblestoned Main Street is the Union Street Inn, where a recently completed renovation gives off the sophistication of Manhattan crossed with the old-money charm of Greenwich. Perhaps it's because Ken Withrow, who runs the inn with his wife, Deborah, lived in the latter while working in the former, as general manager of the sleekest of New York's boutique hotels, the Royalton. The city's loss is the island's gain: The Union Street's 12 rooms showcase the best of what remains of 1770 (wide-plank floors, crooked walls) with stylishly antiquated decor-toile wallpaper, four-poster canopied beds, even real wood-burning fireplaces in six of the rooms. Bonus: Hot breakfast each morning-such as omelets and croissants, plus a cold buffet of fruit, yogurt, and juice-is included in the rate and served on the tree-lined outdoor patio.

Cape Cod Life

2006 winner of magazine's annual readers' poll for Nantucket's best B&B.

Karen Brown Guides

This is an exceptionally attractively decorated inn whose bedrooms have queen and king beds, often four-posters and fireplaces. Rooms have cable TV, Frette linens, duvets, bathrobes, and air conditioning. A full, cooked breakfast is served either in the dining room, on the terrace, or in your own room, and "goodies" are offered in the afternoon. The inn provides a walking tour through some of the old cobblestone streets to many of the town's charming homes, churches, and scenic sights. Numerous restaurants are close by: menus and suggestions are available from the innkeepers.

Guide to Nantucket - Polly Burroughs

Every guidebook writer must ask: what's missing? In this instance, absolutely nothing. Built in the 1700s, this inn is superior in every way. They serve a delicious full breakfast with many tasty selections in the dining room, or out on the little terrace. The Boston Globe, New York Times and local papers are waiting each morning, as well as the latest weather report. Many of the rooms have fireplaces for those crisp, cool autumn days and coffee, cocoa, and tea are available at all times. This inn is a real charmer and one of the island's best.

Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard & Nantucket - Kim Grant

Ken & Deb Withrow preside over this historic hostelry (circa 1770) -and one of the island's best run B&Bs -with a sense of understated hospitality. After redecorating and renovating in 2000, the 12 rooms are more luxurious than ever, with Frette linens, plush bathrobes, and fluffy duvets. The art of providing attentive service remains a strong suit here.

The Nantucket Book -Betty Lowry

In nice weather guests sit outside on the patio. Guests help themselves to juice, cereal, and yogurt and are served a hot entree such as French toast and sausage, apple cinnamon pancakes, or eggs and croissants. Deb always gives guests the option of a fruit plate if you want a lighter breakfast. Be sure to take the foot path along the side of the house leading up to Orange Street and the Unitarian Universalist Church with its magnificent 1844 trompe l'oeil ceiling.

The Discerning Traveler

One of twelve inns chosen for the "Romantic Hideaways" issue." Innkeepers Deborah and Ken Withrow have completed a total redecoration of the inn. This brings the inn to a new level of quiet sophistication without changing the historic nature of the property. Rooms are decorated with designer wallpaper and fabrics including Pierre Deux and Brunsweig and Fils, duvets, Matouk and Frette bedding. It is in an ideal location as it is walking distance from the ferries, close to all of the shops and restaurants in the town, and has a side patio for quiet relaxation. If you are coming during the busy summer and fall season be sure to call Ken and Deborah before you come and take advantage of their concierge services especially for dinner reservations.
