We loved their unique ambience and character, however, we also found that so many missed the mark. Simultaneously, we spent more and more time renovating our historic home and gardens with meticulous love and attention to detail.We always tried to be true to the character and period of the house while still allowing our own freedom of style.We received the Village of Oak Park’s prestigious ‘Cavalcade of Pride’ award, for excellence in property maintenance, twice!

And then…we had children. Jack was born in 1991 and Lily quickly followed in 1992.We found ourselves not wanting to be at the office for after hours or on the road any longer! We began to reconsider our priorities in life and realized that we were not utilizing our real talents. Thus, our pursuit of the perfect inn property began.

As members of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, we kept a watchful eye on the real estate section of their monthly ‘Preservation’ magazine. The Blair Estate jumped off the page when it appeared and we sent for further information.It looked so incredible that Dan flew out with our video camera in hand to check it out. He called home to say, “This is it!” We could not have dreamed up a more magnificent house, grounds, view and location if we tried! And, we had the opportunity to create our inn and its reputation from scratch! What an incredible opportunity we had before us.

It really didn’t take as much nerve as many people think to uproot our family and move from the edge of Chicago to the north woods of Maine. We knew this was exactly what we were meant to do and we certainly didn’t want to look back at our lives and regret that we hadn’t dared to try! And, guess what? We love it and we believe it shows in every aspect of our inn. This is our passion, not just a business. We strive continually to create a truly wonderful experience for our guests that will not be forgotten.

The overwhelming and emphatic response of each of our guests, no matter how well traveled they are, that Blair Hill Inn is the most beautiful inn they have ever seen, is our reward above all else!
