Frommers: 2003,2004, 2005
ww.frommers.com
The highest rating given by Frommer's is 3 stars. Three stars is their way of identifying the most "Exceptional" places to stay. Blair Hill Inn was one of just eight properties in the state to receive this honor and was the only property in inland Maine given the distinction! As for dining, the inn was one of just 5 restaurants in the state given the elusive 3 star rating!
"Blair Hill Inn *** This unexpectedly classy inn amid the wilds occupies an 1891 hilltop Queen Anne mansion with dazzling views of Moosehead Lake and the surrounding hills. It's been sparely and elegantly decorated with a mix of rustic and classic appointments. The bright first floor common rooms, the drop-dead gorgeous porch, and the handsome guest rooms invite loafing...."
Fodor's: 2003, 2004, 2005
Again, one of the nations foremost independent travel guides has honored Blair Hill Inn with a distinction meant 'to set it apart from the rest'. Fodor's presents a single star to identify their favorite within each region. Not only was Blair Hill Inn the only recipient of their coveted 'Star' appointment for the Moosehead Lake Region, it was one of just 5 lodging establishments distinguished with this honor throughout the entire state of Maine.
"Perched on a hill with soaring views of the lake, with beautifully appointed rooms at the upper end of the luxury scale - high four posters with feather beds and soft, soft linens, fireplaces in some rooms, terrific old-new bathrooms...you get the idea."
Maine, An Explorer's Guide by Christina Tree:2003
In this independent, top selling Guidebook's newest edition it simply states that...
"Blair Hill Inn is the region's outstanding inn."
"Set high above Moosehead Lake at the top of Blair Hill, this is an expansive Victorian mansion, built in 1891 as the centerpiece of a 2,000 acre gentleman's farm. It has been restored to its original grandeur by Dan and Ruth McLaughlin, who seem to have just the right touch. The eight guest rooms have all been deftly decorated and offer a feeling of unstuffy luxury. There is an elaborate, multicourse breakfast; dinner served on the weekends and a series of concerts is presented on the lawn."
Off The Beaten Path, A Guide to Unique Places, 5th edition
"The Blair Hill Inn sits regally on a hill with vertigo-inspiring views of Moosehead Lake. The elaborate Queen Anne-style home was built in 1891 and is a place where you'll instantly feel as if you're living life large! The on- Premise restaurant, which just opened in 1999, is already regarded as among the best in northern Maine."
Down East magazine, April 2003:
"Turning a Moosehead Mansion into an Inn"
Down East Magazine is THE magazine of Maine and is distributed nationally. In The 2003 Summer Planning Guide, Blair Hill Inn was presented in a 5-page feature article! Here is a brief excerpt:

"Comfortably ensconced in the wicker chairs on the broad porch of the Blair Hill Inn, it's hard not to contemplate the utter poverty of the English language. The view simply leaves you without words. Then, a rousing bit of Hayden drifts out from the living room windows, and for a moment your language finds traction. This music, it occurs to you, is the perfect soundtrack for a symphonic panorama.
The Blair Hill Inn is an oasis of elegance amid Maine's North Woods housed in a vaguely Queen Anne Victorian mansion, the inn is imposing but not intimidating, luxurious without being fussy, grandly historic but not grandmotherly. It's a hugely improbable sight, rising up form the hillside just north of Greenville."
Down East magazine, July 2003:
"The Best Restaurants in Maine"
As if the feature article in the April issue were not enough, the July issue presented a special section entitled "The Best" of Maine. Within it, was a review of the 'Best Restaurants' and listed among the top 10 was Blair Hill Inn! To be placed in the company of White Barn Inn, Arrows and Primos was a real honor for which we are so grateful!
New England Travel & Life 2003:"Top Inns"
In their 2003 annual issue, New England Travel and Life magazine announced their choices for the "Top 15 inns throughout Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. These inns blend comfort and charm with style and sophistication to provide the ultimate getaway."

"Inland Maine is better known for sporting camps than country inns. A stellar exception is Blair Hill Inn, which overlooks Moosehead Lake, Maine's largest, in Greenville. The 1891 mansion, originally the centerpiece of a 2,000-acre gentleman's farm, has been beautifully restored by Dan and Ruth McLaughlin.
Dinner at Blair Hill Inn, a famously fine five-course affair, is served on weekends only. Dinner is the perfect accompaniment to watching the sun reflect off the lake as it sinks behind Moose Mountain."
Outside Magazine's annual edition of 'Outside Traveler' 2003:
A feature article entitled '5 Getaways in the USA that are Perfect for getting your game back' recommended Greenville's Moosehead Lake as one of those 5 perfect spots. And...the recommended place to stay was....
"In Greenville, stay at the Blair Hill Inn, built as an estate and farm in 1891. The inn is perched on a hillside high above Moosehead Lake, with spectacular mountain views and 15 acres of lawns, gardens and woods. The eight exquisite rooms are flooded with natural light!"
Bangor Daily News, August 2003:
Think Moosehead Lake in the summer and you probably picture kayaking, fly-fishing, white-water rafting and moose safaris. But earlier this month in the vacation town of Greenville, a classical guitarist sent strains of Yugoslavian folk songs over the cascading lawn and gardens of the Blair Hill Inn, which overlooks the immense and immensely popular lake.
The music was coming from a spacious carriage barn on the regal estate where the inn's guests, vacationers from the town below and locals attended a summer music series that has been taking place at this historic mansion for the last three years. Said one woman on vacation from New York, "In Manhattan, we can go to any number of classical guitar concerts. Here, what's totally different is that we're 15 feet away from the guy." Her husband was equally impressed. "This is so special. It's like going to Tanglewood," he said, referring to the Boston Symphony Orchestra's legendary summer home in Lenox, Mass. "It's better than Tanglewood," his wife added. "It's more intimate."

Grand Sud, Octobre/November 2003:
Grand Sud (which means Grand South, as in the South of France) is an elite French travel magazine! As part of a tour from Maine to Washington DC, and from Virginia to Maryland, the editors of Grand Sud asked each state's tourism department to recommend the nicest places to stay while visiting. Blair Hill Inn was elected! After hosting our guests, who barely spoke English, for two evenings and sending them on their way, we couldn't have been more excited when we received word from France that ours was the only inn, out of their entire US tour to be featured in a full-page color photo review in their fall issue! Call us if you'd care to have a French translator read it to you!

Denver's Fabulous Five: March 2003
"The Blair Hill Inn stands high above the lake, its 90-foot veranda overlooking the water, Squaw Mountain and fabulous sunsets. The innkeepers have created a perfectly balanced elegance and warmth. Exceptionally spacious guestrooms, glow with antiques, plush feather beds, and fresh flowers from the expansive gardens. I'm still trying to decide which of the eight tastefully decorated rooms to call my favorite. Each beckons to enter, unwind, renew."
The Dallas Morning News, September 2002:
"My recommendation (in Greenville) is the Blair Hill Inn, a spectacular bed-and-breakfast with multi-course breakfasts, fireplaces, down comforters and to-die-for views."
The Boston Globe, August 2002:
"An inviting spot to take in the beauty of Moosehead Lake can be found at the Blair Hill Inn."
Travel & Leisure, 2001:
After visiting the Moosehead Lake Region, Travel & Leisure selected a color photo of Blair Hill Inn for their feature article on Maine's Inland Lakes. They wrote,
"Blair Hill Inn, a summer idyll...Here is the life of ease: cocktails on the veranda, a dinner of fresh wood grilled tuna, a Jacuzzi soak, and a good night's sleep on a feather bed. The 1891 Victorian mansion is meticulously restored and furnished, and the guest rooms have spectacular views of the lake."
Bed & Breakfast Journal, 2001:
"Recognizes Blair Hill Inn as one of the Top 15 B&B/Country Inns in the U.S."
Yankee Magazine:
Blair Hill Inn receives Yankee's Editor's Pick which cited Blair Hill Inn as, "One of the outstanding reasons to visit New England."

Down East Book's Calendar of Maine 2004:
The view from our lawn was selected as the Month of August by Down East Publishers. This beautiful 2004 calendar depicts the most scenic wonders of Maine and includes such landmarks as Mt. Katahdin, and the moon over Bar Harbor. Blair Hill Inn was the only commercial property chosen to represent the state's most beautiful locations.

'Gardens, Maine Style'
by Lynn Karlin and Rebecca Sawyer-Fay

As the Best Selling book of Maine and the winner of the 2002 Garden Globe Award of Achievement, this book displays many of the most stunning gardens of Maine. Included in its pages and on the back cover is a large photo overlooking Moosehead Lake from the grounds and gardens of Blair Hill Inn!

Coming in 2004!
Conde Naste magazine will be featuring Blair Hill Inn as the place to stay while visiting the Moosehead Lake Region. The writers and photographers stayed at the inn during the fall of 2003 in preparation for the upcoming feature article scheduled for the summer of 2004.

A Special edition of Fodor's entitled "Away From It All" will be released during the spring of 2004. Based upon the current trend of travelers really wanting to find the finest vacation getaways in remote, peaceful areas, Fodor's set out to review the best of the best found in remote locations. We were notified that Blair Hill Inn had been reviewed and approved by Fodor's Editorial Staff to be one of 3 inns in Maine included in this exclusive edition!

The State of Maine's Conservation Department is creating a promotional calendar for 2005 that will showcase the beauty, wildlife, and outdoor activities found throughout Maine. The photographer showed up at our doorstep in February of 2004, to take photographs of our view for inclusion in this upcoming Maine Calendar! We'll keep you posted when we learn which month we are!
