Meet the Innkeepers

Karen Brown

Karen is a well-known Calgary interior designer who worked in design for twelve years principally in the commercial area. As a partner of Tavender Brown Interior Design, she developed her innovation and supervisory skills. Prior to opening the Inn in 1999, she started and operated a silk import business and was active in a volunteer capacity and on a commercial basis in the special event design field. In 1996, she attended the University of Calgary, Faculty of Continuing Education, taking courses in the business and hospitality areas. She extensively researched the concept of “innkeeping” and traveled widely to interview innkeepers throughout Canada and the United States to obtain input on inn design and operations. Karen researched the Calgary market, contacting various tourism and industry associations, hospitality consultants.

Bob Brown

Prior to opening the Inn, Bob was a partner in KPMG, and was at various times Regional Director, Taxation, Mergers & Acquisitions & Business Valuations as well as National Director, Aboriginal Services. In-between two sojourns with KPMG, he established a private consulting practice providing taxation and investment advice. Bob is a graduate of Concordia University, a Chartered Accountant and recipient of a diploma in Business and Security Valuation from the University of Toronto. He lectured for sixteen years for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta, has written over 200 articles and papers on taxation, investment and finance and is co-author of a tax service published by Carswell. Bob researched the financing and marketing aspects relating to the Inn.
