Dining Information

The Restaurant

Meals at Sooke Harbour House nourish the senses as well as the spirit. You will savour the wholesome and beautiful creations of our award-winning chefs.

Dining here is an experience of pleasantly satisfying surprises. Our menu changes daily to allow us to serve only the freshest local ingredients, as they become available. All salad greens and herbs are grown in our own kitchen gardens.

Our focus is always fresh, natural, and very local. Ingredients include: meats, such as organic rabbit, veal and venison; poultry, including organically raised chickens and local duck, pheasant and guinea hens; seafood, such as Pacific salmon, rockfish, halibut, ling cod, sole and tuna; shellfish, including oysters, crab, mussels, clams, shrimp, scallops and sea urchins. You may never have tasted seafood this fresh – usually served the very day they are caught by local fishers.

Our kitchen gardens (which you are welcome to explore when you visit) also provide over 400 varieties of fresh and sometimes unusual herbs, salad greens and edible flowers for our restaurant. Organic vegetables are purchased in season from nearby farms. Our chefs also create dishes using ethically wildcrafted local herbs and seaweeds.

Sooke Harbour House has gained an international reputation for Pacific Northwest cuisine that is as creative as it is delicious. To avoid disappointment, please make your restaurant reservation when you book your room.

The Cellar

The cellars of Sooke Harbour House offer the largest collection of wines from British Columbia in the world and perhaps the best selection of Canadian ice wines available.

The Sooke Harbour House has been awarded the 2003 Grand Award by the Wine Spectator Magazine in New York for the sixth consecutive year. The Grand Award recognizes that the Sooke Harbour House has one of the 95 best wine lists in the world. It is the industry's highest honour for wine lists and it recognizes restaurants that also offer their customers the finest dining experiences. According to James Molesworth of the Wine Spectator, Grand Award winners offer unparalleled wine cellars, with comprehensive coverage of many wine-producing regions coupled with often mind-boggling vintage depths and a selection of the world’s best producers. With their superior wine service and cuisine, these restaurants truly merit being a destination for any serious wine lover.

The wine list at Sooke Harbour House offers the best selection of British Columbia white, red and dessert wines in the world and a fairly good selection of wines from Ontario. Other strong points of our wine list include good selections of champagne and sparkling wine, German rieslings, chardonnays from Burgundy, white wines from California and red wines from Australia, France, Italy, Washington and California. The inn also offers more than one hundred Canadian ice wines and a good selection of dessert wines from across the world. The Sooke Harbour House wine list usually fluctuates between 2,500 and 2,800 selections with approximately 15,000 bottles of wine.
