About This Property

Established over twenty years ago as a bed and breakfast, Kathryn and Thomas White purchased the property in April of 2000. The house is a fine example of Federal style architecture. The house was built by the Hersheys in 1834 and occupied by four prominent Hanover families throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and it was a recent Hanover Mayor who purchased the property in the mid-1980s and converted the residence to a seven-room B&B. The house is located on one of the most historic streets in Hanover. Not only are there some wonderful homes in the neighborhood, but the Battle of Hanover, which preceded the battle at Gettysburg, was fought just outside our front door. Guests are pleasantly surprised by the 145-year-old magnificent magnolia tree that towers over our flagstone patio, porches and gardens. Hanover is a pleasant community of some 40,000 people. There are quaint shops and a delightful tea room downtown, which is a three-block stroll from the inn. You'll have a choice of restaurants in town ranging from a tavern with great causal fare and 400 kinds of beer to fine dining at our colleague's restaurant five blocks from our front door.  The James Beard Foundation recently requested the Mansion prepare dinner for its Foundation Board.  The tasting menu was enjoyed by our August guests to rave reviews!  We also have two celebrated restaurants within an easy drive - Restaurant Sidney and Antrim 1844, another of our Select Registry colleagues. Reservations are required, so please let us know your preferences when you call.
