History

Jacksonville is one of only a few cities in the United States designated a National Historic Landmark. It has preserved its 19th Century charm and each year attracts thousands of visitors, who enjoy browsing through the historical museum, art galleries, restored historic homes, and antique shops. From June to September, Jacksonville is also home to the Peter Britt Music Festival, a summer-long concert series featuring world-class performers in Classical, Jazz, Folk/Country, Musical Theater and Dance, which takes place in the outdoor amphitheater especially designed to accommodate the spectacular view of the beautiful Rogue Valley. Guests can spread their blankets on the lawn and enjoy a special picnic dinner (prepared by the Jacksonville Inn, of course) or reserve stadium seats for the superb performances on the starlit nights that consistently grace the summer evenings in Jacksonville. In addition to the many attractions Jacksonville has to offer visitors, its location in the Rogue Valley makes it the perfect destination from which to enjoy nearby attractions such as Crater Lake National Park, the Oregon Caves, or the renown Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, as well as jet boat rides, white-water rafting, fishing, hiking, cycling, and downhill and cross-country skiing.
