The charming little Village of Montchanin is located 4 miles North West of Wilmington Delaware and in the heart of the Brandywine Valley where all Museums are at close proximity. It is beetween New York and Washington DC , and only 30 minutes South from the Philadelphia International Airport.
Once part of Winterthur, the Village has remained in family hands. The current owners, Dan and Missy Lickle, have made important contributions toward preserving and enhancing the property, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
By maintaining the structures and finding adaptive uses that are compatible to the site and surrounding countryside, Montchanin Village is one of the rare survivors of this particular type of 19th century hamlet. Its present use as a country inn and unique fine dining restaurant will assure its continuing preservation and will afford visitors wonderful experiences in the heart of the historic Brandywine Valley for many years to come.
The charming little Village of Montchanin was begun as a crossroads settlement, providing services and housing for the surrounding countryside. Most of the early residents were laborers who worked at the nearby Du Pont powder mills along the banks of the Brandywine River.
