About This Property

Grandeur. Romance. Civility. Elegant Traditions at Charleston's Most Historic Inn

With style and grace, the exquisite Governor's House Inn (circa 1760) preserves the legacy of historic Charleston's premier luxury inn. Since opening in 1998, after completion of careful historic rehabilitation, the majestic Governor's House has been acclaimed as one of the South's most romantic bed and breakfast inns. Elegant accommodations, exceptional service and Charleston's gracious Southern hospitality are part of the Inn's heritage. Guests experience this tradition in one of Charleston's most magnificent settings, a National Historic Landmark.

The radiant former Governor's mansion is a classic reflection of Charleston, South Carolina's rich romantic history. In the late 1700's, during the presidencies of George Washington and John Adams, Governor's House was the residence of Governor Edward Rutledge, South Carolina patriot, statesman and the youngest signer of the Declaration of Independence. Henrietta Middleton, the Governor's wife, was part of the prominent Charleston family whose name now graces Middleton Place plantation and gardens. Over 200 years later, their city estate retains its grandeur and dignity, just one reason why Governor's House Inn bed and breakfast was declared "a flawless urban hideaway" by Southern Living.
