Owners, Mike and Vickie Schneider bring energy, enthusiasm, years of experience, and their love of people to the art of hospitality.
Mike's interest in hospitality, fine food and art began in early childhood thanks in large part to his father, an interior designer and artist in St. Louis, MO. During his summers in St. Louis he worked in the Ozarks at the Lodge of the Four Seasons. Mike chose the University of Wisconsin, Stout for his degree in hospitality.
Vickie was born and raised in Akron, OH, and attended the University of Akron where she majored in Liberal Arts. Upon graduation she joined United Airlines and was based in Chicago and later, San Franciso, where she met the young Mr. Michael Schneider.
Mike began his professional career at The Hyatt on Union Square. When he met Vickie, the love of his life, their adventure together began. They married in Atlanta, GA where Mike worked at the Hyatt Regency. Numerous transfers and promotions took them around the country with stops in Richmond, Lake Tahoe, and back to San Francisco. At the age of 31, Mike was promoted to General Manager at Hyatt Burlingame.
During this time, they stayed at various Bed and Breadfasts. The charming settings and the personal interaction with the innkeepers set them on a path to owning their own inn one day - a journey that would take over 20 years.
After 13 years at Hyatt and a move to Knoxville, TN., where Vickie attended graduate school at the University of Tennessee studying nutrition and food science, Mike received an offer to return to St. Louis and join the Adams Mark hotel company. During his time at the chain's flagship property, he gained invaluable food and beverage experience. He hosted Holiday Award, Mobil, and Wine and Food dinners and later joined the ChaƮne de Rotisseurs. He was later promoted to Executive Vice President.
Mike later joined Lane Hospitality as Vice President of Operations in Houston, TX, and then went on to become Vice President of Operations for Omni Hotel in Dallas. After establishing his own development company, Mike purchased and renovated the historic 80 year old Casa de Palmas hotel in McAllen, TX, repositioning it as the Renaissance Casa de Palmas, a Marriott affiliated hotel.
While searching for their own property, Mike and Vickie found Wimberley, an artists' community in the hills of Texas, and The Blair House Inn. It fit the needs of Schneider's: an inn which emphasized fine food, art and hospitality situated on 22 peaceful acres of open space and the ability to draw guests from four major cities.
In the seven years they have owned the Blair House, they have added three new deluxe cottages and a pool, upgraded serveral guest rooms to suites, expanded the cooking school program, and added new artists to the Blair House Art Gallery. In the future, the Schneider's will continue to emphasize quality of service and are planning even more exciting additions.
