The Mercersburg Inn was built as the residence of the Byron family in 1909 at a cost of $100,000. It was the first home in Franklin County to have elctricity which was supplied by the family's tannery in the village.
The home is 24,000+ sq feet not including the Carriage House and has 11 foot ceilings throughout (except the Romantic Retreat).
It became an Inn in 1954 and operated until the mid 1970's when it closed.
In 1985, a new family purchased the Inn and embarked on a major restoration, installing all the private baths and bringing the extensive wood interior back to it's original glory. The house has not been modified other than the addition of the new baths and air conditioning and maintains the same grandeur as the day the Byron's moved in.
