- Bird Watching: The White Mountains diversity of habitat provides a home for wildlife ranging from spotted salamanders to black bear and moose, with no fewer than 184 species of birds to boot. While approximately 38 species of birds can be found in the Forest year-round (including chickadees, ravens, nuthatches, and downy woodpeckers), their ranks swell to 110 or more during the summer months when neotropical migratory birds arrive to breed (ovenbird, wood thrush, red-eyed vireo, and black-throated blue warbler, to name a few). Another 35 species pass through the forest as migrants or winter visitors. In some years there are "invasions" of Northern Hawk Owl and Great Gray Owl from the far north, as well as Bohemian Waxwings, Red and White Crossbills, Pine Grosbeaks, and Common Redpolls.

- Rock Climbing: Thin Air at Cathedral Ledge is a classic climb whose first ascent was done mistakenly by John Turner who was looking for the now nearly forgotten D'Arcy Route. All the bolts on this route were placed long after the first ascent and a number have been removed. The pitons however have been in place for quite some time although probably not placed by the first ascent party and for the most part seem to be in good shape. Still, backing them up where possible is a good idea.
- Scenic Views: If you like nature and the mountains, the Kancamagus Highway (aka: "The Kanc," or misspelled as Kangamangus Highway and Kangamgus Highway) is a must see! The Kancamagus Highway, constructed in 1959 is traveled by over a million people each year. The Kancamagus Highway cuts a 34 mile east-west channel through the 800,000-acre White Mountain National Forest from Lincoln NH to Conway NH. When the dense trees change their leaves from their summer greens to breathtaking shades of yellow and red in the Fall, they are illuminated against the colorful mountains, making this a dramatic and enjoyable leaf-peeping route. Motorcyclists relish the twists and turns as the highway climbs to almost 3,000 feet at the peak of Mount Kancamagus. The easily accessible trailheads and parking areas are often sought by hikers. The and rocky swimming holes, carved by erosion, lure families craving relief from the summer heat.
