About This Property

San Antonio Lodging
Our Bed and Breakfast Inn is located in downtown San Antonio, Texas across the street from the beautifully landscaped Riverwalk and minutes to the Alamo by trolley, the perfect location for business or leisure travel. It is in the National Register of Historic places, King William Historic District, San Antonio, Texas, as an "exceptional" City Historic Landmark. The house was built in 1886 by Albert Beckmann for his bride, Marie Dorothea, daughter of the Guenther Flour Mill family, on the mill grounds. The property was given to Albert and Marie Dorothea as a wedding gift from her parents. Three generation of Beckmanns lived in the home for seventy years. During that time, several room additions and porches, including the warm and inviting wrap-around porch and the bright and airy sun porch, were added to the home to give it a very grand appearance. In 1913, the porch was extended from Madison Street around to Guenther Street, thus making the new address less notorious because of the infamous brothel located on Madison Street. The cypress fence was also restored and still frames the meticulously Victorian-style landscaped yard.

The wonderful wrap-around porch warmly welcomes guests to the main house and to the gracious experience of Victorian hospitality in a quiet and tranquil atmosphere. The wicker furniture on our porch invites our guests to relax and enjoy their "welcome tea" along with complementary chocolates and butter cookies. The entrance to our bed and breakfast is through the rare burled Texas red pine front door onto the intricately designed wood mosaic floor imported from Paris. The formal parlor has 14-foot high ceilings and tall classic windows with beveled glass inserts. The Victorian furniture and accessories complete the nostalgic decor for our guests enjoyment. Arch shaped pocket doors, with framed opaque glass, open to the elegant dining room, where breakfast is served every morning. A large multi-paned window looks out into the sun porch, which is filled with white wicker furniture, flowers and plants. The perfect place to relax and catch your breath after a busy day exploring the city of San Antonio and the Riverwalk areas.

The Carriage House lodging is adjacent to the main house and was built around the turn of the century. The Beckmann's live-in maids occupied the upstairs quarters, while the downstairs would have been for their horse and carriage. The Carriage House has been completely renovated, featuring shuttered windows with flower-filled window boxes, gardens, balcony and patio areas, and has two mini-suites for our guest's comfort and privacy.

All of our bed and breakfast guest rooms are very spacious and feature very ornately carved, queen-sized, high-back, Victorian beds, colorful floral designer furnishings, private bathrooms, lush terry robes, air-conditioning, ceiling fans, televisions, phones, guest refrigerators, comfortable armchairs, and desks. Our guests also have a fax machine available for their use. And, as always, we personally take care of all our guests and their needs, so that while they are here at our bed and breakfast, they have "the warm and gracious hospitality" we are known for. We want our lodging guests to have the best time possible while they are in San Antonio!

A gourmet breakfast, a two course breakfast with a breakfast dessert, is served in our formal dining room with china, crystal and silver. Fresh ground coffee, specialty teas, uniquely blended fruit juices, a main entree, fresh fruit and coffeecake, muffins or pastries are served to all our bed and breakfast guests. They are beautifully and artistically presented and equally as delicious....always receiving rave reviews! And, our lodging guests are never served the same breakfast twice during their stay.

Our Bed and Breakfast Inn is located in San Antonio's King William historic district, perfect for enjoying San Antonio at its very best whether it is for business or leisure travel. And here in King William we have five great restaurants to choose from: The Guenther House, the Blue Star Brewing Co., El Mirador, La Focaccia, and Rosario's. It's always nice to come back after a busy day to freshen up and be able to walk to one of our neighborhood restaurants.

The landscaped part of the Riverwalk begins across the street and within a short distance, it will take you to all of the downtown areas.

Or, you can take the trolley, which stops around the corner and leisurely travels through the King William Historic District, the Southtown area, and then to all the downtown areas you will need to see. The trolley also continues on to the Spanish Governor's Palace, the San Fernando Cathedral, the El Mercado (the Mexican Market), Alamodome, and Sunset Train Station. Convenient transportation is also available to San Jose Mission, Sea World, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, the zoo, the Botanical Gardens, the museums, Brackenridge Park, and North Star Shopping Mall.
