- Antique Shopping: Not to be missed on any walking or driving trip are the many antique shops and specialty shops in Essex Village. They are among the best on the Eastern Seaboard and wae are justifiably proud to have them so nearby. Don't forget a stop by the art galleries, too which have changing exhibits. Giftshops abound as well, some within a short walking distance.
There are also many more fine antique shops and stores within a short drive of the Inn.

Enjoy the beauty and charm of the historic Connecticut River Valley as you chug through our historic countryside. A narration highlights the history, folklore, flora and fauna of the sights along the way. It's for all ages and goes in rain or shine, and includes a dinner train, refreshments, gift shop, and, on Santa's North Pole Express, a visit with Mrs. Claus and the elves.
Passengers board the train at the Essex station, which is included in the National Register of Historic Places. At Deep River Landing, the train meets theriverboat for a one-hour cruise. Relax, enjoy some refreshments and see spectacular vistas of great natural beauty, as well as a river's eye view of Gillette Castle and Goodspeed Opera House. - Hiking: The Canfield Meadow, Turtle Creek and Bushy Hill nature preserves in Essex and Ivoryton are natural areas encompassing hundreds of acres of woods and wetlands. Hiking trails, walks, and native animals and plants abound in these areas. Ask at the front desk for a flyer for each of these and we'll give you more information.
