One of the oldest continuously operated inns in the country, The Griswold Inn opened its doors for business in 1776 and has been catering to yachtsmen and overland travelers ever since.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!
The Connecticut River Valley has been designated one of the world's "Last Great Places" by The Nature Conservancy. Essex, the charming seaport village in which our Inn is located, is nestled in this picturesque River Valley and has been named "The Best Small Town in America". The Griswold Inn, on Main Street, is mere steps away from shops, galleries, and the majestic Connecticut River.
HISTORY, HOSPITALITY AND CHARM ~ A WINNING COMBINATION!
Originally settled in 1648, Essex and its surroundings have a rich past. The area's history, beauty and charm are reflected throughout the Inn. The "Gris", so much more than an inn and restaurant, is often thought of as a museum, housing an important art collection, many antique artifacts and period furniture.
THERE'S NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING!
We hope you enjoy touring our site. Please contact us for more information, or to make reservations for a most delightful experience at one of New England's truly original country inns.
