Meet the Innkeepers

Matthew & Mary Parker

We have been Innkeeping at Seven Sea Street since 1987 when the Inn was designed and newly built by the Parker family. Mary and I lived at the Inn full time for 7 years. We have since moved out of the Inn to raise our three sons, Benjamin, Adam, and Ethan while our Asst. Innkeeper and Puddy reside at the Inn to tend to our guests needs after hours. The Inn is the fulfillment of a childhood dream for Matt, and both of us love Innkeeping with the opportunity of meeting new and interesting people from around the world. Mary was born and raised in the Hartford, CT area and was voted 'most artistic' in her high school class. She attended Umass Amherst and Southeastern Massachusetts University and received a B.A. in journalism in 1986. She worked as the advertising sales director and contributing writer for Martha's Vineyard Magazine then moved to Nantucket as publisher, editor, and art director of Nantucket Journal magazine, a glossy publication celebrating the beauty of Nantucket, from 1988-1993. She met Matt during a magazine ad sales meeting who, although declining to buy an advertisement, asked her if he could buy her dinner instead. Matt was born in Germany and was raised in Rhode Island. He first came to Nantucket in 1969 with his family visiting friends. Nantucket made such an impression on him, he vowed not to take a rope bracelet off his wrist until he could return to the Island. The plan worked and this began his love for Nantucket, which eventually merged with his interest in Innkeeping after receiving a B.S. in management engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1985. Recently, Matt has served as chairman of the Nantucket Lodging Association, has been on the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce and currently serves as a member of the Nantucket Visitor Services committee.
