Deer Isle is situated in the Stonington archipelago, which draws kayaking fans from around the world. Dozens of islands are a short paddle from the shore and kayaking guides are available to help you explore. We are located in the beautiful Penobscot bay which offers some of the best sailing on the Maine coast. Isle au Haute, part of Acadia National Park is accessible by Ferry from Deer Isle and many visitors come to Deer Isle to visit this lesser known section of the park. The world renowned Haystack Mountain School of Crafts attracts artists from around the world, resulting in the highest concentrations of art galleries in Maine. Stonington is one of the most productive lobster ports on the coast of Maine and no trip would be complete without eating a fresh Maine lobster!

  • National/State Parks: Isle au Haute, part of Acadia National Park is reached by water from Stonington just 6 miles away. Deer Isle is a great base for exploring Acadia Nationa Park, just an hour away.
