About This Property

Welcome to our award-winning Four Diamond historic Inn - located in the small, historic town of Christiansburg, VA, just two miles off I-81, this imposing Queen Anne Victorian sits atop the town's highest hill. Near Roanoke, both are nestled in the beautiful mountain highlands of southwest Virginia. Warm hospitality, comfortable, relaxed elegance and memorable breakfasts are the hallmark of The Oaks. Opened as an inn in 1989, listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, the tall, sunny windows, turrets, stained glass, wrap-around porch, perennial garden, complete with gazebo, fish pond and fountain offers an endless fascination to guests from around the world.

Beautiful landscaping provides an ever-changing backdrop for the seven historic oak trees, one of which is believed to be one of the largest white oak trees in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Surrounded by lawn and the oak trees, the inn faces Main Street, once part of the Wilderness Trail blazed by Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett.

Perennial garden and fish pond with fountain surround a large brick terrace, complete with wrought iron tables and chairs. Popular for breakfast or "tea" in summer. Cottage and gazebo complete the picture.

The entire history of the house is steeped in romance. Major W.L. Pierce built the inn in 1889 as a wedding gift for Julia Baird. Seven Pierce offspring were born at The Oaks. Julia, who devoted her entire life to the keeping of her wedding gift, died in the house at age 99.

Featured in more than two dozen magazine articles and the TV series "InnCountry USA", The Oaks was selected for the cover of three books, including the travel guide to inns, published by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Guests will find every amenity - soft, luxurious linens, down comforters, comfortable mattresses, fireplaces, claw-foot tubs, Jacuzzis, an interesting library and wonderful breakfasts .Wireless internet access,  private telephone lines, televisions hidden away, personal refrigerators stocked with complimentary refreshments, valet service and more. For the business traveler low corporate rates Sunday through Thursday.

The three-course gourmet breakfast feature authentic Victorian recipes, mingled with other favorite dishes on the menu, which changes daily.
