Hendersonville is located in a central location to many great regional attractions, many within a thirty minute drive.  Don't forget the attractions right here too!


Attractions:

  • Historic Downtown District: Entered into the National Register of Historic Places in March of 1998. While downtown don't miss the Old Historic Henderson County Courthouse, The McClintock Chime Clock, The Mineral & Lapidary Museum, the Hendersonville City Hall, and the Hendersonville Depot.
  • Flat Rock Playhouse, State Theater of North Carolina: Considered one of the ten best theaters in the country. Open late May through mid December presenting matinees and evening performances Wednesday through Sunday.
  • Carl Sandburg Home - National Historic Site: Carl Sandburg, American Poet, historian, author, and lecturer spent his final 22 years at the estate, Commemara, in Flat Rock. Daily tours, except Christmas Day.
  • Western North Carolina Air Museum: The museum features award winning restored and replica antique and vintage airplanes.
  • Andy Petree Racing: A 100,000 square foot facility in Flat Rock featuring race car displays, trophies, and memorabilia of racing history. Tours available by appointment only.
  • The North Carolina Arboretum: Situated on 426 acres with National Native Azalea Repository, public display gardens, unique horticultural exhibits, education center, greenhouse complex, nature trails, and trails for hiking, biking.
  • Biltmore Estate: George Vanderbilt created Biltmore Estate, America's largest privately owned home with 250 rooms on an 8,000 acre estate. Closed only on Thanksgiving and Christmas Days.
  • Chimney Rock Park: Offers 75 mile views, nature trails to a 404 foot waterfall, rare plant life, unique rock formations, and easy access by a 26 story elevator inside the mountain.
  • Cradle of Forestry: Features the first Forestry School in North America. (1898 - 1913) Guided walks, craftsman, interpretive movie, historic cabins, logging locomotive, helicopter simulator, Forest Discovery Center and hands-on exhibits. Open mid April through early November.
  • Brevard-Land of the Waterfalls: 250 waterfalls are located in Transylvania County. Some you can see from the road, other that you must hike to.
 
The natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains makes this area a great place for many outdoor activities and historic downtown offers great shops, galleries and restaurants to visit.  Here's a list of a few area activities.

  • Farmer's Market: Henderson County Farmer's Curb Market. Open Tuesday and Saturday year round. Thursdays too, May - December.

  • Fairs/Festivals: Garden Jubilee (May), NC Apple Festival (September), WNC Mountain State Fair (September).
  • Hiking: Dupont State Forest, Holmes Educational State Foresst, Pisgah National Forest.
  • Historic Sites: Carl Sandburg Home, Downtown Hendersonville, & Johnson Farm.
  • Horseback Riding: Cedar Creek Stables, Above & Beyond Equestrian Center, and Pisgah Forest Stables.
  • Lake / River / Ocean: Lake Lure (tours, marina, beach and fun center), French Broad River, and Davidson River.
