  • Story Land: (Rt. 16, Glen), Santa's Village and Six Gun City (both on Rt. 2, Jefferson), all of which are terrific family attractions.
  • Attitash Bear Peak & the Fields of Attitash: (Rt. 302, Bartlett) Alpine slide, driving range and climbing wall.

  • Hiking: Mt. Doublehead - Jackson. Jim's favorite with great views. Jackson. Mountain Pond - Intervale. A leisurely nearby walk. Hedge Hog Hill - Off the Kancamagus Highway Arethusa Falls/Frankenstein Cliffs - Crawford Notch. Spectacular falls, The cliffs are a challenge. Mt. Willard - Crawford Notch. Casual hike to awesome views Zealand Falls Hut - Zealand Valley for waterfalls & views. Mt. Washington - Pinkham Notch. An 8 hour hike with varying weather. Be prepared. Tuckerman's Ravine - A spring skiing favorite on Mt. Washington Black Cap - North Conway. Family hike with great views of the Valley and Mt. Washington. Thorn Hill - Walk up the road by more beautiful houses. Five Mile Loop - A long walk through the Village of Jackson.
  • Biking: There are numerous sources for rentals and maps. Red Jersey Cyclery, Intervale. Good rentals and high end sales. Joe Jones - North Conway. Rentals, sales & tours. Attitash Bear Peak - Bartlett. Lift serviced trail riding. Sunday River - Bethel, ME. Extensive lift serviced biking. Great Glen Trails - Pinkham Notch. 12km of graded gravel trails and single track. White Mt. National Forest - Ask us for some great recommendations.
  • Swimming: On-site pool and local swimming holes. Ask us for directions.
    Mt. Cranmore -Indoor pool.
  • Tennis: Mt. Cranmore - North Conway. Indoor and outdoor courts with day passes.
    Eagle Mountain House - Jackson. Outdoor courts just a couple of miles from the Inn.
  • Canoeing/Kayaking: Saco Bound - Conway. Canoe and kayak rentals on Saco River and whitewater rafting in Errol. Canoe King - West Ossipee. Canoes, kayak rentals. Woodland Acres Camp'N Canoe - Brownfield, ME
  • Golf: All of these courses are wintin 5-40 minutes of the Inn. Wentworth Golf Club- 18 holes in Jackson Hales Location Country Club -scenic and fun 9-hole course in North Conway North Conway Country Club - Semi-private course with 18 holes by the train station Eagle Mountain House - 9 scenic holes in Jackson Mount Washington Hotel - 27 holes of great golf, 40 minutes away in Bretton Woods
  • Horseback Riding: Attitash Bear Peak - Bartlett. Guided horseback rides. Farm by the River - North Conway
  • Ski Area: The Inn at Thorn Hill is surrounded by five alpine ski areas which are easily accessible.
    Attitash Bear Peak, Bartlett- 60 trails; 11 lifts; 1750 vertical feet (Attitash), 1450 (Bear Peak); 97% snowmaking. Ten minutes from the Inn with dual base lodges and interconnecting mountains. This ski area has the best snowmaking in the Valley. Both mountains have very good intermediate and black diamond runs. On the drive to Attitash, you can stop at Joe Jones Mtn Outfitters for great rental equipment and experts on ski tuning.
    Black Mountain, Jackson, 35 trails, 4 lifts, 1100 vertical feet; 98% snowmaking. Just five minutes away up Route 16B, good family and value area. South facing slopes so good for a cold day.
    Bretton Woods, Bretton Woods, 32 trails, 5 lifts, 1500 vertical feet; 98% snowmaking. Located 40 minutes from the Inn, Bretton Woods has expanded this year with more lifts and trails. Great views of Mt. Washington. Bretton Woods is noted for their great novice and intermediate slopes as well as their top of the mountain restaurant. Cranmore Mountain Resort, North Conway, 38 trails; 7 lifts; 1200 vertical feet; 100% snowmaking. The area's original mountain with good terrain for the whole family. Lots of improved lifts and good all-around grooming. Can be crowded on weekends and on Wednesdays during Mountain Meister season.
    King Pine, East Madison, 17 trails, 6 lifts, 350 vertical feet, 95% snowmaking. Located 30 minutes from the Inn and is a small and friendly mountain. Good for beginners.
    Wildcat Mountain, Jackson 43 trails, 6 lifts; 2100 vertical feet; 100% snowmaking. This is the skier's mountain. Great trails and the best views in the East. Can be cold on a windy day.
    Sunday River, Newry, Maine. 126 trails, 17 lifts; 2340 total vertical feet (9 peaks and slopes from 500 to 1630 feet), slopes; 92% snowmaking. This is the biggest and only an hour drive. Great grooming and the best snowmaking in the East. Long season.
  • Boating: Mount Washington - Meredith. A scenic cruise of Lake Winnipesaukee on a 230 foot ship.
  • Day Trips: Crawford Notch & the Kancamagus Highway - Sensational mountain driving and views. Stop in Franconia for the Flume and Old Man of the Mountain.
    Dixville Notch - Look for moose on the way to the Balsams Resort.
    Glider Flights - Float over Mt. Washington from Gorham.
    Lake Winnipesaukee - Beautiful drive around the state's largest lake.
    Evan's Notch - The "locals drive", bring a picnic.
  • Shopping: A short drive from the Inn are a wealth of shops and name brand factory outlets (and remember, shopping in New Hampshire is tax-free)
  • Skiing - Cross Country: In winter, the cross-country ski trails of Jackson Village, rated the finest cross-country ski network in the East, are at the inn's door.
    In addition, there is superb cross-country skiing at:
    Jackson Ski Touring Foundation, Jackson. The crown jewel of the area's touring centers. Jackson has 158km of trails with a majority of the trails groomed for skating or classical styles. The most popular trail is the Ellis River which runs North from the Village along the Ellis River. It is an easy trail and scenic. The day center is new and has a great teaching center and rentals.
    Great Glen Trails, Pinkham Notch. Located near the top of Pinkham Notch and has 40km of trails, all groomed for classical and skating. It has a great day lodge and wonderful views of Mt. Washington. There are rentals available along with snowshoeing.
    Mount Washington Valley Ski Touring and Snowshoe Center, Intervale. This center offers 65km of groomed trails connecting Intervale, Kearsarge and North Conway. Full line of equipment, rentals, clothing and accessories at the touring center located at Ragged Mountain Equpment. New this season ... guided snowshoe tours offered every Saturday.
    Bear Notch Ski Touring, Bartlett. This facility is located in Bartlett and usually retains snow very well. The center has 60km groomed trails with many along the Saco River.
    Bretton Woods, Bretton Woods, is 45 minutes from the Inn and has 100km of trails, good facilities.
  • Train Ride: Conway Scenic Railroad (North Conway Village)
    Valley trains and famous Notch train.
    The Mt. Washington Cog Railway (Rt. 302, Bretton Woods), the world's first mountain climbing cog railway which goes to summit of 6,288 ft. Mt. Washington.
  • Tours: Mt. Washington Auto Road (Rt. 16, Pinkham Notch)
    A wild and wonderful self, or guided, drive to the summit.
  • Outdoor Programs: Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center (Rt. 16, Pinkham Notch)
    Mountain biking, hiking, canoeing and kayaking, fly fishing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
