Ingredients

2 1/ 2 cups flour
1 /2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1 / 4 tsp. ginger
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup white sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup buttermilk
3/4 cup canola oil
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup chopped nuts

Directions

In an electric mixer blend together the flour, salt, 1/ 2 teaspoon of the cinnamon, ginger, both sugars and canola oil. MAKE TOPPING: Remove 1 /2 cup of batter from the mixer, and to it add nuts and the additional 1 1 / 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Mix well. To the batter in the mixer, add baking soda, baking powder, egg and buttermilk. Mix to combine all ingredients. (Small lumps in the batter are OK.)
Pour batter into one well-greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Sprinkle the topping mixture evenly over the surface. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes until tester comes out clean.
