Poached Fruit à la Mom  

Ingredients
 
2 1/2 c premium grape juice such as Husch Zinfandel * 1/2 c sugar 2-3 cinnamon sticks 10 whole cloves 10 cardamon seeds (removed from pods) 1/2 tsp anise seed 1/4 c fresh lemon juice 4-5 c sliced fruit of choice (suggest: pears, plums, apples, oranges, apricots)  

Directions
 
Place all ingredients, except fruit in a large pot and simmer, uncovered for about 5 minutes. Add fruit, bring to a boil, cover and reduce heat. Simmer until fruit is tender but still retains its shape. Usually takes between 5 and 10 minutes, depending on fruit type, ripeness and size of pieces. Remove from heat and cool. Refrigerate for at least 8 hours before serving. Serve with a spoonful of yogurt or sour creme. Serves 10. * Note: Dry white wine may be substituted, but increase the sugar to 1 c.
