The Benjamin Hawkins Room

President George Washington appointed Benjamin Hawkins to serve as a liaison between the Indians and the United States government. He served in this capacity for twenty years.

The Cotton Merchants Room

A successful cotton merchant, B.T. Adams owned the house that is now the 1842 Inn from 1908 to 1927. The Adams family made minor changes in the interior of the house, including the installation of the glass front doors bearing the letter "A".

The De Soto Room

This room is named for the Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto, who searched for gold in Georgia and encamped for a while along the banks of the Ocmulgee River. Features four-poster, queen sized bed, Laura Ashley fabrics and floral décor. Non-working fireplace. Located in Victorian Cottage

The Douglass Room

C.R. Douglass was one of Macon's most prominent black citizens during the nineteenth century. Douglass rose to prominence in real estate but also was successful as the proprietor of the Douglass Hotel, the Douglass Theater, and owner of the Middle Georgia Savings and Loan.

The Georgia Belle Room

The Georgia Belle peach is one of the state's most famous agricultural exports. It was developed in Georgia through scientific cross breeding and cultivation.

The Hitch Hill Room

In Clinton, Georgia, during the days of the Civil War, stood a large two story white house known as the Hitch House. Consequently, the entire hill where Hitch House was located became known as Hitch Hill. The home survived the Civil War, but was burned during the turmoil of the reconstruction period.

The Jefferson Davis Room

This room is named for the Alabama statesman, Jefferson Davis. Davis, who served as President of the Confederacy, was captured in Irwinville, Georgia, by the Union troops.

The Overlook Room

The Overlook House is situated atop Coleman Hill and commands a spectacular view to the east. The house, now known as Woodruff House, was the site of many grand events, including a ball given in honor of Winnie Davis, daughter of the President of the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis.

The Sidney Lanier Room

Born in Macon on February 3, 1842, Sidney Lanier became well known throughout the South as a musician, lawyer, soldier, and most importantly, a poet. His most popular works of poetry are "Song of the Chattahoochee" and "The Marshes of Glynn".
