Orange Chocolate Croissant Baked French Toast

This is an elegant and simple breakfast dish that includes the delicious tastes of croissants, chocolate and orange. It is made moist with an egg custard similar to French toast batter. You'll be a star when you serve this lovely dish.

  • 6-8 plain croissants, cut in half lengthwise
  • 6-8 Tablespoons Nutella
  • 8-10 Tablespoons orange marmalade divided
  • 2 Tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon butter
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup whole or 2% milk
  • 1 1/2 cup half and half
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • pinch of salt

Butter a 9 x 9 inch baking dish. One by one spread bottom halves of croissants first with Nutella (or similar chocolate nut spread) then marmalade. Arrange in dish. Cover with top halves of croissants in a lovely fan formation

In a bowl, starting with eggs mix next 6 ingredients together with a whip till well blended. Pour over croissants. Let sit until custard mixture is absorbed. One hour or preferably overnight.

Bake at 350 for 40 - 45 minutes.

Topping: In microwave or sauce pan melt remaining 2 Tbsp butter and 2 tbsp marmalade. Drizzle over baked croissants and serve.
